Thanks all. I will save for a while before buying a card. My power supply is 300 watts, does this need to be upgraded to run the 8500 or 8600?

Probably...My old GeForce 6800GT needed at least 300W...So I bought a new Hyper Type-R and it started to work like a charm...And it also got rid of tons of heat thanks to those huge fans that it has 8-)

EDIT: I just checked the BFG Tech version of the 8600GT...According to them, you need a 325W PSU... ;)

James,

I discovered that my 350 Watt one wasn't really powering my system well with my olde Radeon 9800XT....even though the computer folks at the place I buy my computers thought it was FINE.  Popped in the aforementioned Rosewill....... and stutters cleared up a lot, xcrashes stopped, and so on.

I think 300 or even 350 (why bother?) Watts sound VERY lightweight for a modern video card.

best,

....john

You shouldn't really skimp on the PSU..at least get one that has over-current, over-voltage and short-circuit protection.
