Will this HP run FS9 with good FPS?

Postby Wii » Wed Oct 03, 2007 1:08 pm

HP 6130
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
3072MB DDR2 RAM
400GB HD
nVidia 6150 (estimated, I'm not sure what the card really is)
Vista Home Premium
What do you think the FPS would be with settings on...High?
It's on sale for $650 (Orginal price $800)
Also, what would be a good monitor for it? (under $200)

Its not about getting high fps, i think NickN had a post where it said 20fps is the optimum performance for fs9

FSX is OK at between 18-24

FS9 fairs a bit better at 24-30

But it is not just the frames but the systems ability to maintain the suggested values.

Just because a system may do 24-30 frames in bush flying does not mean it can maintain those numbers in urban areas.

Also, I would try and see if there is a Windows XP OS option. Although Vista is the future and is coming along, your performance on Vista may be less than with XP. This is also true of only 2 gigs of memory, although, with FS9 and 2 gigs in Vista you are probably OK. If this was FSX you would need at least 3-4.

As for the video card in that tower, that is a bit low-grade for my taste. I would suggest a 7800 series card or better and make sure it is not a 'onboard' video chip and is actually a video card. There are usually 'upgrade' options at Dell and HP. I would make sure you get into a 7800 series card, at minimum.

I like the AMD there. Compared to my current system (Pentium 4 at 2.80GHz, 448MB of RAM (scary huh?) and a Radeon ATI IGP 345.0M

My computer there will run FS9 on full with 12 FPS. That new computer is gonna go for more than 30 or at least 25. (full traffic too) By the way, we're talking of me, a soontobe 14 yearold getting a computer for under $1k. It's not gonna be a super computer ok? Lighten up.

lighten up?

didi I say something that indicated I was upset or pushy?

A 7800 series video card is not part of a a super computer. A super computer (in terms of over the counter parts) runs 5500+ from a dealer and costs about 3500 to build it yourself

You asked, I answered.

If you are trying to get results that will make you happy my resposes are geared toward that solution.

If you do not like what I suggest, I apologize. I prefer to give you good information so you understand what you need to accomplish your goal. There is nothing I can suggest that will get you what you seek for peanuts, but, in the case of FS9 it is doable for under 1000. But I would still not expect top-end performance.

I get bad comments about cheap computer I'm looking at. They are annoying. Not saying yours was. My grandpa knows people that can get a gig of ram for $5.  :o Yeah. Dunno about video cards though. I have an ATI Radeon 7000 sumthin rather sittin around upstairs.

I was not giving you any grief about a low budget computer. As long as you understand what low budget will give you and accept that, then its all good.

I think you can do well for under 1000 in FS9. The only problem is value for hardware. When ever you purchase a completed or built computer from Dell or HP, it comes loaded with software start-up crap that slows the system down and you won

I can't afford that computer. I'm going down a little more in processor speed. (INTEL VIIV PROCESSOR featuring INTEL CORE 2 DUO at 4400+) Yes they are slow processors but it'll get the job done. comes with 2GB of ram but I can upgrade.
