Frank,

I have NO IDEA what those other "FreeFD-XXX" gauges are.  Be careful with "unknown downloads".  Scan them first for viruses before running them.

Project Magenta used to be quite a bit cheaper....and a lot of current users bought it beofre they really jacked up the prices.  If you are the type of person to build a simpit that is going to cost $15,000 or more...... well... I guess $1000 is a "pittance".  But to me.... that is SERIOUS BUCKS!

Spend time looking all throguh the pages in the Homebuild section....there is a TON of information hiding in there.

best,

Unfortunately, if this thread heads off any further toward homebuilt cockpits than the "multiple monitors" starting point, I'll be forecd to move it to "homebuild"..... so anything further on simpits specific stuff.... please start another thread in that forum.

francsal.... you mentioned putting one monitor on top of the other. Unless you can get the bottom monitor low enough the top monitor is a real pain in the neck if you use it much. If I were  building my own cabinet I would try to get the lower monitor about 8-10 inches lower that normal. It is easier for me to look down than look up.

As I think about it it might be kind of neat having the comm/nav and whatever you have on the second monitor lower than your main screen. Maybe a little more realistic?

Which ever way you go, good luck with your project.

I find that my most useful use for my two LCD monitors, is to have my cockpit appearing on one monitor, and the second monitor containing my FS Navigator, GPS "Radar Screen" running un-interrupted..!

Perfect for Multiplayer flights... :)...!

F...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

P.S. ....my second, lightweight,  LCD monitor, on an extension VGA cable, is also ideal for moving round my room (close to my cosy fire!) to watch my favourite PC DVD films, etc!... :-*...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Hey Masternerd.... I was the one that started it veering off in that direction..... I just wanted to to swing back around to more of a general "Hardware" multi-monitor focus.  (Which as we all know IS actually the door to the Dark Side.) The comment I made was as much directed to myself and to anyone else.

It would be very easy for this posting to get in to serious "Cockpit Building"....and since there is a forum section for that......... well..........   :)

best,
