Please can someone help me!

Postby cpthammond » Wed Aug 22, 2007 7:49 am

Hey, thanks for looking. I installed flight sim on my old pc the other day and the graphics are horrid. I need some help which graphics card to choose. Here is some information though about my motherboard. Its name is "D915GAG" which  has 2 PCI slots, AGP slot and PCI Express x1 Connector. I have a 2.93ghz processer (pentium 4 515 socket 775). A pretty dissapointing 512mb's ram. It currently runs onboard graphics (915g).

Please can someone recommend me a cheap suitable card (preferbly 512mb) for this PC which will run FSX well, I recently got a new PC with an 8800GTS 640mb which is quite fun.

Thanks, any help appreciated

Laurence

What is you budget?...I'd split the budget between RAM and Card. Better to have 1GB RAM and 256MB Card rather than 512MB on each. Especially if you're only running a single monitor.
Ideally go for 1GB + 512GB.

Also I think that board has a PCIe x16 graphics slot not an AGP??? in which case you're spoilt for choice with Graphics cards

Tell us your budget.....

PS:

Work your way down this list until you hit the one you can afford:

nVidia 7950GT
ATI

The PCI are the 2 white ones top right. The PCIe are black above and below the PCI slots.
(PCIe x1 at the top)

Thanks Jim, now thats easy to understand. I would have thought that black 1 would have been AGP because its not a very good motherboard. You've really helped me out alot on this one and i sincerly thank you.

Laurence, :)

AFAIK PC'99 says that AGP should be brown, not black.

PCI-E has sloped connector edges (most have)

And some help... get a look at the card before you buy it... from what i can see there is very little space between the top of the card (thats the BACKSIDE of the board) and the memory retainer clips. Anything with a large cooler on  that side will not fit
