Sound Card Problem

Postby Triple_7 » Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:48 am

The on-board audio on this system is great quality...but whats the point when you cant hear it in true glory.  Maxed volume wasn't loud at all.  So pulled out my old Creative Soundblaster Live 24-bit which has the same quality specs as the on-board.  Its running great and now the volume is ear drum blowing at 3/4s ;D  But then came the issue of the sound mixer.  On XP it there was a task bar icon for Creative Surround Mixer.  With Vista its not compatible, even tried google searches and didn't get anywhere other then the same theory of compatibility.  So now the question is, somewhere out there is there a similar program to use that will work with Vista.  The sound is ok where its at.  But it needs a little tweaking.  Little less treble, little more bass.  Its a little on the tin can side at the moment.  I want the more thunderous roar from the engines I used to have.

I have the same lovely old Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! 24, purchased new, many years ago!

The drivers were only obtainable for Win '95/'98 when the Card was released, but a tip from ALROT helped me to get the later WIN XP drivers, and access the full Creative program... :)...!

It works fine now, and runs my surround-sound system, and MIDI keyboards via the built-in 15 pin Game socket!....(and also some of my old Gameport Joysticks, required for "old" games!)

A truly fantastic sound card, with the EMU chip fitted....and a built-in software Keyboard and a full 128 voice General Midi sound file...with effects!!

Yet another reason why I am resisting dumping my reliable Win XP, for Vista!.... ;)...!

I doubt if most of my Software/Hardware will be compatible with VISTA... ::)...!

Paul...of sound mind... 8-)...!
