Long live the 7xxx series. I have a 7900GTX and a pair of 7950 GX2s and really like them. I have not tried the 256 versions but if they are anything like their big brothers you will be happy with the card.

BTW Nick, thanks for the DX 10.1 tip, I knew there was a reason I was holding back on an upgrade.

LOL

No more gags on that one.

How did you think they were going to fix the current core problems and also force upgrade sales at the same time?

Other than the GX2 I have not used a 7950 so could not say to much about it.

Good luck with whichever card he gets......

I was in another forum earlier and I think the thread was called "Buy Early and Get Screwed". If criticism is money, MS is another $billion richer, was quite funny.

it all goes hand in hand with:

If you wanna to play, you gotta pay

always has been, always will be

The 7950's (non-GX2) 512 are just a 7900GTX with a reduce core and memory speed. Eveything else is the same. they can be clocked up but they also use a cheeze HSF on them so to clock them to full 7900GTX speed usually requires a replacement heatsink and fan. Thats the only difference. they may reduce the core and vdd voltage too but its the same card.

Good to know Nick N, since I'm not a big gamer only interested in FS. hopefully with some extra upgrades and the 7950 I'll be able to run FSX well enough to enjoy it (I know no fancy stuff but that's ok)

Edit!!!! I just read your new post about fsx. I guess I'll be running fsx by 2010  ;D NO big deal I love FS9

Nick, sorry to bother again about this, but as you know I am waiting for the 7950GT 512MB 256-bit to become available at newegg, that costs $249.99 for $30.00 more I could get this 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 would you say that's a better choice? (also not available right now)

Thats sucks Dan

yes, you can do that one. But to get the clock up nice I would prefer this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150171

the 80Mhz on the core and 200Mhz on the memory will make a difference. You do get a 30 dollar rebate so its really 280

Then again, for 70 more you can have the 640MB version... and they have rebates too

decisions descisions

EDIT: It looks like that one you posted is out of stock

Dang.. I cant find the 7950 512 in stock anywhere.. except for 360-399 geezz
