Here is a snag I found from a while ago...

Notice the PEAK

I had 2gigs of memory installed and a page file of 3072MB

3072000 page file + 2048000 memory installed = 5120000 THE LIMIT number. The LIMIT is NOT what you ever want to see. Anything higher than the amount of physical memory installed and you are running the application from the PAGE FILE or hard drive, very BAD.

In the example below the PEAK DURING the flight reached 1941388 or 1.95gig which means I need more memory. The OS is sucking 256 at least so at over 1850000 I am starting to PAGE the files instead of calling them up from memory. How bad that gets depends on how much I need while flying. If I PEAK but it drops quickly I can probably skimp by on 2 but thats not what was happening

Some times I would see a PEAK of over 2,200,000 or 2.2gig

I added 2 more gigs to that system which resolved high load stutters and slow scenery loads after flying for a period of time and the memory got eaten by the application/scenery.

Notice the AVAILABLE area... that is why its not really a good way of estimating if you need more memory. The AVAILABLE is much higher because at the time I checked it FSX had already released some of the memory it had gobbled up during the flight and dropping to the desktop raised it a bit more.

alright... here are 2 images of before and after (respectively). there is a red line to symbolise a jump in the data... it was 1400x900 and it needed scaling down.

You are on VISTA

OK, now I get the picture

Oh yea, you need 2gigs no doubt about it

the OS takes 512-768 in VISTA just to say hello... notice the before image?

And you are running 77 processes

at least

and you need to make sure it is MATCHED RAM and in the right slots of the motherboard for correct DUAL CHANNEL operation

you cant just slap 2 sticks of memory together, they must be a matched pair and in the right slots

its okay, i got THAT bit right  ;D

its equal memory, equal clock speed, equal everything... so it should go straight into dual channel mode when i put it in... which is a bit more of a bit more of a boost, hopefully

If I had READ the sig...  ::)

I could have told you without the explanations... but I guess it is a good way to show everyone how to check their system for memory needs, so it all goes to a good cause

I dont read sigs anymore becuase many of them are outdated and I spent many times giving BAD advice because I ASSUMED the sig was correct

i usually just go by the 'if its killing my system to open firefox, i need more' method. but then again, FSs are more hoggish than that foxy devil. but yeh, ill keep a look out to see my memory usage and all that. i have it on my sidebar if i need to check it, and now i have a process explorer too
