MIDI->USB and vista questions

alright, i am getting a MIDI (15 pin D-sub/gameport) to USB converter

i am running vista. i hear MIDI is no longer supported as an input type, firstly, is this true? secondly, would it still be incompatible if converted to USB? all the converters ive seen only have OS compatibility up to XP


also,
on XP there is a way to add game controllers and configure them from the control panel. now, Add Hardware isnt being very friendly and i want to add this hardware when i get it. is there an easier way, and will i still be able to configure and check the buttons work? if so, how please.
