Finally Upgrading

Postby Katahu » Mon Aug 06, 2007 12:05 am

I was thinking about upgrading my old rig with new parts, but since I have never really taken a computer apart before, I felt that I was better off buying a new computer altogether. So, here are some pictures of my old rig being sold and my brand new desk that's ready for a brand new rig.

$3,299

[color=#0000ff]Kat! No!!!! :o :'(

You (or someone more knowledgeable) could build the EXACT same system for LITERALLY HALF the price!!!!

This is my up and coming system from Newegg.com:

Cooler Master Centurion - $50 (this will be modded, you could gladly get a better one)
ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - $137 (the Deluxe is better for clocking and about $220 if i remember right)
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad (Black) EPS12V 750W Power Supply - $200
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - $310 (and dropping)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 800 - $110
WD Caviar 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HD - $80
ASUS 18X DVD

Still, I don't think I have the confidence to build a better system anyways. I would rather spend $3,000 for a new computer than to spend $100,000 in damages if and whenever my first build ever exploded simply because I couldn't tell apart a jumper from a USB. ;D

Will someone please come back me up... knock some sense into this dude... I've shown him the numbers and still he's not convinced... you could build a PC twice as good with 3 Gs...

Or better yet... get the marmalade injections.... ;D

Kat isn't there anyone who knows their way around a PC within a 100 mile radius of your house?  ::)

Besides, cables and components nowadays are made so that if you really have to force them in, you most likely just have to turn it around or something.

Please Kat, I'm begging... let us lead you away from the error of your way...

I tried... :P

I'll back you up ;)

I'd say build yourself, I thought it would be difficult, but it's not really, once you learn whats what.

If you are going to buy, DON'T GO DELL!!

There are MUCH better makes out there, all you'll get from Dell is terrible customer support, and a power supply that will probably fail after a few months. ;)

Every PC I will ever have will be built, because I knew from an early age how to build PC's. My dad helped me build my first system when I was 11 years old. But a friend of mine went out yesterday and spent

Speaking of Dell... I would recommend that if you buy a Dell, as soon as you get it format the hard disk and start again. My laptop is a dell, and the first time I turned it on I found about a hundred odd bits of software and trials and junk that I didnt want. It has an 80gb hard disk, but out of the box I could use 62gb.

This is very good advice if the following is in place:

1. The person knows how to deal with a system and does not need the silly boot and emergency recovery partition Dell (use to) put on their systems.

2. The custom Windows install disk they give you may try to put all that junk back on the system, including the recovery partition in the event of a reformat so you have to be sure the Windows disk they give you doesn
