AMD or Intel?

Postby Firezone53 » Sat Jul 28, 2007 7:44 pm

I think of buying or making a new computer and i need to choose either Intel or AMD for my processor.

(from AMD's website)
Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Frequency: 2.6Ghz
L2 Cache Size: 1MB x2 (that makes 2MB total)
Socket: AM2
Stepping (whats this for): F3
Wattage: 65W
System Bus (MHz): 2000
Manufacturing Technology: 90mm SOI

(From Intel's website)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Architecture: 65 nanometer technology
L2 Cache: 4MB (wow)
L3 Cache N/A
Clock Speed: 2.66 GHz
Front Side Bus Speed: 1333 MHz
Slot/Socket Type: LGA775 (probably can be installed on my current motherboard)

Regards,
Fire

My current specs,
3000mhz P4 with HT, 80GB SATA II 7200RPM, GMA900 integrated GPU. Yes i know, my computer is terrible for gaming...

AMD at the end of the year when they get the new stuff out, maybe. Jury is out on that until the duel begins and the numbers are added up.

Now that Nick has said something, we might as well not post anything else...

But I will anyway! ;D

Intel.  When the new chips come out Phenom and Penryn (I think), then we'll let the reviews fly, then we'll make new conclusions then, but until then, INTEL. ;)

Yeah, intel it is. I'm using the AMD 5200+, and it is good, but the next major upgrade for my PC will be a new motherboard, SLI'd graphics cards, and a quad-core Intel. Once I've won the lottery, of course  ;)

I still have an old AMD, it's wonderful, but currently it's a fact that Intel has better CPUs, which need less power and less money.
The other way is waiting for the new AMD's Processor generation, it'll come, but late.... :D

Thanks guys.  :D

And i finally thought that Intel processor that i was going to buy is far more superior then that AMD processor that i planned if i decided to buy an AMD.

Yes Intel is the hands down cpu of choice for gamers but I have said it before, wait for the next gen cpus to arive. Intels offerings are right around the corner. AMD just got a 3 Ghz clock on thier new cpu, who knows what that means but they were speculation 2.6Ghz so it could mean AMD will produce a very good chip in the comming months as well. I personally use AMD, they forge the path for new tech, have always had good cheap cpus and run every game I play besides FSX flawlessly. I really don't fly fs anymore anyways though and im starting to wonder why I even stay active to this forum :P

Definately Intel - Coming from somebody who went from Intel to AMD back in the A64 days.

My next machine will be an Intel based system.

actually, AMD's offerings are still more power efficient by a tiny margin.  and i don't think the QX6850 priced at roughly $1500 is 'less money'.

anyways, Intel rules, and AMD drools (for now).  Once the new chips come out, we may have to change again, or stay Intel...

Intel might release more versions of the C2D when AMD's new range of processors is released.

I have used computers with Intel processors for 10 years now.

You would think that but its not going to be the case

As of November all Core2 products, including quad core2, are history. Intel will no longer be shipping any core2 products.

That is why I have been pushing people who intend to buy a new motherboard to either go with a P35 chipset, which is available now, or wait for the x38 chipset which will be released next month... or wait till the end of they year around November for the next Intel, AMD or Nvidia chipset boards which will run the next gen of Intel and AMD processors without issues.

So you mean, C2D processors will be no more during November this year? And Intel will introduce new models to replace the C2D?

Not completely. The phase out will begin in October-November and how fast they all go away will depend on Intel and the success of the next gen of procs.

All 1066 bus processors will definitely be gone in November with the 1333 bus slugs not far behind.

Intel planned a 45mm chip that will replace the 65mm C2D.

Processors are getting smaller these days... :o
