FS has gone strange......

Postby Celtman » Sat Jul 28, 2007 8:12 am

Well, hard to explain what happens, I'll let the picture speak :)
Only does this every now and then, perhaps once a week. Anyone else had this problem?
Anyway, here it is:

Yes, those are Panel BMPs :D

Haven't seen that before, and am no expert, but that looks like it could be a hardware issue. Maybe heat related?

When's the last time you cleaned your heat sinks, coolers?

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Man . . .

That's real art work :o

I wish mine had that prob.

I've no more idea than you of what the prob is.

Did this start when you first started  flying FS2004?

Or did it start when you installed something else?

May be you should clean the dust out of your computer?

Hum......... my guess is:

Video card

CPU

RAM

PSU

likely in that order.

As already mentioned .... could be heat.  Does this happen on a hot day?  Or only after a lot of flying?

Clean all the heatsinks/fans ... video card, CPU, PSU, case.

Reseat the video card in the slot.

Run a voltage monitor (like Asus Probe) on the voltages on the mobo when running flightsim.

Lots of steps to try.

best,

Did you install anything? When was the last time you did something to the FS.

My solution is just uninstall it.  ;)

;DNo, not this time :D

Tried a complete re-install, with no add-ons, same result, although seems to happen less. Perhaps it is heat related...........

Specs if anyone needs them:

640Mb 8800GTS
X2 3800+ (overclocked by 15%, could that be the problem?)
1Gb DDR PC3200 RAM
550W PSU

As I said, I am starting to suspect heat may be the issue (especially with that Video card, heats up the whole room), however all other components seem to stay cool. CPU is peaking at around 45 degrees, fully loaded, and HHD is 35 degrees. Video Card is peaking at about 65-70 degrees.

Doesn't only happen on hot days, and can either happen after a lot of flying, or after just a few miniutes. If I re-boot FS, it doesn't happen again, no matter how long I seem to leave the PC on.

Think I'll try cleaning the heatsinks, they've gone 14 motnhs without a clean  ;)

With a system like you have quoted, I wouldn't have thought you needed to over-clock anything, especially to run FS 2004 perfectly!

Have a peek at mine...runs everything maxed in FS 2004, locked at 25 FPS...no problemo...!

Paul....Loadsamoney!.... 8-)...!

I'd also invest in a higher wattage PSU.
