Socket F

I don't remember seeing any posts here about the AMD Socket F processors.

Am not thinking about buying one but am curious if anyone has any experience with them and what their purpose is/was.

I was just looking at processors at my local puter store and see they have dropped way down in price.

Hey Richard!

Socket F has been around for a year and is a server based processor. Its best advantages are in the power consuption area

You can review info on it here: http://www.anandtech.com/IT/showdoc.aspx?i=2892

As for an upgrade to your current processor, I dont think you would see any significant change but certain steppings of that model may produce much higher clock ratios.

You would probably be better served to leave as is and upgrade at the end of the year once the smoke clears on the new AMD and Intel offerings. Once AMD gets back in the game starting in September I think you will see prices start to move down, including the video cards too.

LOL... you missed the I'm not buying part of my post.

I was on the local store web site and saw the tremendous price reduction on them and was just curious.

And YES, I am waiting until the smoke clears before I do anything.
