PSU and CPU cooler

Which PSU and cooler would you recommend for the following System:

CPU: Q6600 or Q6700
RAM: 2x G.SKILL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz CL4 (4 GB total)
Motherboard: P5N32-E SLI (May also go with the ASUS P5K Deluxe WIFI-AP)
Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 8800GTS XXX Edition 550M 640MB DDR3

I'm really not sure about these two components because I've never bought a cooler or a PSU in my life. Just in case it might help, I do intend to do some overclocking on the CPU (not on the gfx card though since it's already overclocked).

The same problem Miltest posted about with the Coolmaster

That PSU only has 18A on the 12v rails, uses 4 of them and even in the language, I can see they omitted the temp to load spec. It LOOKS like the SAME manufacture for the Coolmaster. I would NOT DOUBT THAT. Many PSU companies do not make their own supplies and BUY THEM FROM THE SAME CRAPPY SOURCE, then put their name on them.


My advice would be, if the power supply does not list the TEMP-LOAD spec, AND there is more than one 12v rail, the 12v rail should NOT HAVE LESS THAN 22A on a 3-4 rail supply.

...and the LESS RAILS the BETTER.

I prefer SINGLE rail supplies because when the 12v current load is applied, I never have to worry about that 18A or 22A rail LOOSING current. Single rail supplies do NOT DROP RAIL CURRENT or have electronic CROSSTALK problems. When the load goes up the single rail goes FULL BOAR and has access to the entire supply for needed current

Multi rail supplies can NOT access the supply for more power if the rail has met its limit.

If you can not find a single rail supply, try and keep the 12v rails to a minimum, like 2. The higher the watts and the less rails to split, the less likely of current drop or loss, but it still happens on all multi-rail PSU's

That's really good, specially considering that 1 EUR is $1.3 so those $235 would be about 180 EUR. That's cheaper than than the Cooler master I had posted (it was 199 EUR).

LOL. I was just about running in circles trying to figure out which of the 2 units you recommended to Hugo and I was better. I know now.
Now I just have to educate myself about these PSUs... time to stop getting spoon fed this info and learn something myself...  ::)

That PC Power and Cooling unit will run SO QUIET you wont even know it on and will power 2 GTS cards without breaking a sweat and will send that coolmaster unit home crying to its mommy for more power

Silverstone is a GOOD name but they have their duds and a few questionable designs

John and I will never stear you wrong. The only reason I suggested the Silverstone was because of the shipping issues. I forgot PC P&C will ship worldwide

There is no excuse for underpowering a system. If you buy right, the PSU will last for YEARS and for YEARS of upgrades. Most upgrades and you would be shopping for a new PSU too. By the time you buy two or three PSU's over time for your upgrades, you could have had the BEST all along and never had to worry about heat or power drops, ever.

The  part that really floors me for a laugh is an el-cheapo PSU may do the job, but cost twice as much per year in electricity to run, so after 2-3 years.. where is the savings???

Not to mention many El Cheapos have very poor circutry and over volt protection. Many of those El cheapos may only last 4 months and when they die they dont just die, they like to give your whole system a nice big power surge as a going away pressent. So Now Mr El Cheapo became a $2000 investment. Thats why I stick to very reputable brands such as Antec, OCZ, Forton Source etc etc. Brands like PowMax will kill your computer faster than you can say "Oh Sh%t."
