Cheers, and MANY thanks indeed.

Iv'e decided to re-install everything including reformat windows to get my system restored and re-freshed. I will need a bit of time to do this, but hopefully the cause will be good enough to do it.

This is how i plan to do it, I plan to RESET the CMOS, LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS and start from scratch with the bios, BUT NOT to overclock it there and then. ONCE ive reset the CMOS and loaded defaults, i'm going to completely reformat WINDOWS XP on a single partion. When that has installed and finished, i'm going to install my motherboard latest drivers (because i need the ethernet driver), and then just install all the updates, all of them rebooting in between. Then once fully installed, i'm going to install the Graphics, Sound and any other drivers, followed by Anti-Virus, Spyware etc. Then once that is all set up i will configure windows correctly.
Then once everything windows based is complete, its time to re-install and restart FS9.. That is gonna be a REAL time killer that is!

Hows that process sound? Good enough?

Many thanks.

James

The battery did not get the time to remain correct? What about in the BIOS, when you change the time in the BIOS and shut down, start back up, does it remain correct or does it reset time and date?

If it is not keeping the time and date right then either the battery you replaced is defective, not installed correctly or the motherboard has some how become defective because if you set the time in the BIOS to the right value and it does not remain correct after a shut down and restart, (power completely off, not just reboot) there is hardware trouble or a dead battery. Windows takes the time directly from the BIOS until it sync's up with the time server on the internet. If its right in the BIOS and remains correct but its wrong in Windows, I would check the time server settings and make sure some type of malware or bug has not changed the time server on you.

Bring up the clock in Windows, go to the internet time tab and check to see if it is set to time.windows.com

if not, use the drop-down, set it to time.windows.com and hit UPDATE NOW

If it scews up again, something is not right

Windows installs, by default, with Central time zone settings. If the time difference is always by the same amount, that may be the reason. It seems rather obvious, but it's something that is commonly overlooked.

Thank you Very much for the response. I'm sorry, i think i got you a wee bit confused, my motherboard is now fine, and the time and everything is running fine. After spending ages trying to find out what the inital problem was, e.g WINDOWS repair, its messed a lot of drivers and settings up. SO i think starting from Fresh would be a very good and positive idea. Will also allow me to run my system to full potential and gain.

Many thanks for all your help, and NICK for the original post.

Just one final word, i already have windows installed, so im going to reformat, so do i CLEAR the CMOS and SET DEFAULTS ..BEFORE i reinstall windows, then reboot and re-install windows?

Cheers,

If you mean some type of setup guide for FS9, I have never seen one. I have seen fs9.cfg file settings but not an install guide.

I do know that if you have addons such as Ultimate Terrain and GE, FE, there may be a setup for those that makes things look the best and work together but I have never seen anything posted as a list for those addons.

you must also remember to put the FS9.1 update file INSIDE the Flight Simulator 9 folder before running it or the modules will get corrupted.

this may help

MANY thanks. JUST one final note, and i've forgotten... Which Addons should be installed in ORDER? E.g Mesh, Terrain, then aircraft.... I've completely forgotton, since its been ages since my last FS install!

Much appreciated, really, for all your time and effort.

I dont think the order matters, except if you are using Ultimate Terrain products. UT USA, UT Canada and UT Europe and I have not run FS9 in a very long time so my memory may not serve me right, but, as I recall if you use those 3 products, you want them installed in this order... USA, run the configuration, then deactivate and then activate it, install Canada and repeat that process, then install Europe

deactivate-then-activate insures they enable properly

you also have to set those up right within thier configuration programs so you get the right visuals

They may have updates for those addons too.

I have not installed those products and set them up into FS9 in over a year. My last FS9 reinstall was somtime around the beginning of 2006 and I only use FSX now.

Mesh and other addons need no install order that I remember

What you do have to remember is after everything is installed, you have to go though NickN's defrag list with O&O because the disk will be hashed to heck
