The Monitor Dilemma

Postby Akula. » Sun Jul 15, 2007 7:50 am

Well since I blew up my 21" monitor in a lightning storm, I've been thinking about new monitor(s). I'm faced with the dilemma: Save up my pennies for a few months and get a big 27" Dell flatscreen monitor, or go buy two or three 21" CRT's now.

27" dell
Pros: flat, looks incredibly cool, lots of inputs (i can watch tv/play ps2 as well as pc work), wont suck down power as much as CRT's.
Cons: veeeery pricey, will only have one monitor - not as good for CAD and programming, not as high resolution.

2x or 3x 21" CRT's
Pros: cheaper - as cheap as fifty quid a monitor, will be able to get a couple of them, much higher resolution.
Cons: big, bulky, less than aesthetically pleasing, doesnt have loads of inputs.

Any thoughts? Is dell's TFT really worth the money? Are CRT's really better quality?

If multiple screens are useful to you, why not get two good 21" LCDs? Not as cheap as CRTs, but still less for a pair than that 27" (I see the Samsung version, which is basically the same unit that Dell is putting out, lists for about US$1100 at NewEgg)...

There is a reason why Dell 24"+ LCDs always are number one. I highly recommend them.
