joystick play

Postby Spades » Fri Jun 22, 2007 8:07 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm looking at getting a Saitek X52, but I have noticed with every joystick I have owned that there seems to be a little bit of play between neutral and where the spring tension picks up in all axis (X, Y, and twist). My problem with all of my other joysticks is that no matter how I configure null zones and sensitivity, the game still read this slack spot (usually about 1/16-1/8 inch movement in any direction at the tow of the stick), causing the aircraft to roll randomly during flight. I fixed this on a Sidewinder Precision Pro once by using a tighter spring for the X and Y and putting in small pieces of rubber (engine baffle from a Cessna 180 of all things, worked perfectly :)) to fill the gap in the twist, but the stick was soon rendered useless by sitting too close to a strong magnet. Now there is a constant wiggle in the controls whenever I use it.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had noticed this loose spot on an X52 and if so, how they had corrected it. I don't want to fork over the cash for another joystick just to find the same slack spot, though from what I have read, the X52 is the favored controller around here. Also, what is the difference between tha X52 and the X52 pro, other than the color of the stick and MFD? Is it really worth it to spend the extra money on the Pro? Either way, thanks in advance for your answers.

Drifting around...?

That's what is like up there, in the real blue sky....;)...!

Imagine skating on ice, and being blown around by the wind, and that is exactly what your well-worn joystick is representing... 8-)...!

Unless you are flying on Autopilot, you will be constantly correcting your aircraft's drift with the yoke/joystick....;)...!

So a slightly wobbly joystick is a "good thing"... :)...!

An excellent example of the sensation of real flying, here....>>>>
