Build Idea...Comments?

I'm planning on building a rig of my own soon. This are my specs I will be attemting to build around. Of course, modifications will be made. I want Suggestions!

I think the only part on that list that I actually liked was the E6600.

ASUS P5N32-E SLi.
Core 2 Duo E6600
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-1066
EVGA 8800GTS 320MB
Western Digital 250GB SATA3
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
Thermaltake Soprano DX Case
Samgsung DVD RW drive.

If I were on a tight budget thats what I would buy. Anything less and you may be screwing yourself with a spork.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice. I have a little experience on building pcs for simple internet acceses, accounting, etc, but nothing on this magnitude. I really like the look of that case! I will probably use the specs ctjoyce gave me.

Unfortunately, the setup, I'm looking for will cost $1500 +/- 200, which means a lot more work for me. Got any tips on saving money, but still getting high performance system?

Dumping the E6600 for a E6420, and overclocking. Use an OEM copy of an OS insted of the retail.

I have little experience in overclocking. Why should i look into this?

u should look into it, because it will save u money.

lets say u have two processors, one clocked at about 2.4GHz, and the other clocked at 2.9GHz.

the lower clocked one will be cheaper, but the higher clocked faster.

so, u buy the cheap one, and overclock it to the more expensive one's speed.

however, in any case, when it comes to overclocking, make sure you're not using a stock cooler for the processor.

and, you'll void the warranty on the processor.

besides, overclocking isn't really hard.  you only need to be more cautious when entering higher clock speeds, like maybe, 3.5Ghz+
Cam, at one point i think, clocked one of his cores to something like 4GHz.  I forget tho...

Actually it has happened twice.

Intel Pentium 4 Prescott HT 550J @ 4.02Ghz
Intel Pentium D Smithwood 805 @4.1Ghz

Motherboards both were achieved on:
Gigabyte GA-8I915P-Duo A ~ Melted Northbridge through motherboard.
ASUS P5ND2-SLi ~ Northbridge charred bottom of the heat sink, also melted all the sodder points around it.

RAM:
OCZ PC-3200 Platnum Edition 2-3-3-6 ~ Both sticks failed due to over voltage
Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400(C4) 5-5-5-12 ~ Both sticks both running just fine.

So with a good enough motherboard, PSU, RAM, and cooling you can achieve a 4Ghz clock even with a E6420, but you run the high risk of blowing up or melting something. My recomendation, get a Zalman CNPS-9500Cu and a tube of Artic Silver 5 thermalpaste and clock 3Ghz with it. You will get a very nice stable gaming processor without melting your computer.

Cheers

Melting computers aren't much fun, are they? ;)

Putting on sunglasses 8-)

Thanks for the advice, as I have just reached legal working age (15) in the US of A and I want to know how much of my hard earned money will be eaten up by this thing! It's all about da money now!

I just want a rig that is reliable and consistently gets high framerate counts. I don't need crazy good, I just want something that will be good for many years and that will give me something better than 5fps (1-2 in heavy scenery), like my current rig.  >:(

If you're not going for SLI I would get a DDR2 suppoting P35. Other than that do what Cam said.  ;)

the lower clocked one will be cheaper, but the higher clocked faster.

so, u buy the cheap one, and overclock it to the more expensive one's speed.

May I add that the higher clocked one will overclock further than the lower clocked. At the same clockspeeds the lower clocked one will be pushing the memory harder while still running hotter than a higherclocked one.

well, of course the higher clocked stock one can clock higher than the smaller one.  but the principle is, that if he wants the better one, but cant afford it, then he can buy a cheaper one, and overclock that to the same stock speed as the better one.

as for memory stuff, i don't know much (or anything at all), because im not the overclocking type of guy...

Good, cheap memory clocks extremely well.

My Corsair ValueSelect DDR667 are on DDR800 without moaning. Put my E6600 on FSB400 and the whole deal runs extremely fast and well.

Core temps get critical during Dualprime 'though (68
