My rig is out in August and i will have a nice budget to build a new one.  A DX10 4core (maybe 8 if they are out) + a top end gfx card or two.

With FSB1000 and appropriate Ram, I could get to 4,5Ghz as well...but I'd need some decent water cooling for that.

A little chill goes a long way but in my case its also a motherboard that is not on the market yet      ;)

If it was not for that and a bit of peltier chill the Vcore would have to be jacked up to boot and run that speed long term stable.

I'm not into drag racing. A simple and easy to hit 4500 quad works just fine for me.

That is E6700 you posted, not a QX quad

And there is a big difference between booting into Windows to post a CPUz score, and running full boar and overclocked on the bus, memory and video cards.

Just because a system posts and even runs at 6gig on a 3.6gig processor does not mean it will deliver 6gigs of true performance or anywhere near it even if it is stable. That is just the clock cycle of the slug. The true performance of the processor will break down far short of its peak GHz speed. Overclocking works but the breakdown point of the clocked system must be found.. AKA the 'sweet-spot'    :)

chances are, that that PC is either in a refrigerator, or is in some vacuum at really low temps.

or even vacumm sealed with zip-lock style plastic, then placed in water thats under -40C.

wat i would give to hav a stock processor at 5Ghz...  (then i suppose the world record would be 10Ghz...)

Actually the world record is 8.4Ghz as the highest clock speed that any desktop processor has achieved. It was done with liquid nitrogen.
