2nd. attempt at Default Clock speeds...!!

Postby Fozzer » Thu May 10, 2007 10:05 am

...LOL... ;D...!

Hello Chums...;)

A little bit of advice needed..!

Graphics Card: Leadtech nVidia 7800GS AGP.

Manufacturers default Core/Memory speeds: 375/1200

My system viewed on the Riva Tuner:

Core Clock: 2D: 275 MHz.
                 3D: Low Power. 375 MHz.
                 3D: Performance. 375 MHz.

Memory Clock: 2D: 600 MHz.
                      3D Low Power: 600 MHz.
                      3D Performance: 600 MHz

Note that my Memory Clock speed is only 600 MHz in 2D/3D mode, whereas the Manufacturers claim 1200 MHz for the Memory Clock speed..!

Is this because I am viewing the Memory speed on my 2D windows Desktop, and that when the game is actually running in 3D mode the Memory clock automatically increases to 1200 MHz...?

I have no wish to overclock the Card, but I am wondering why my Memory Clock speed seems to be HALF of the Manufacturers claimed Memory Clock speed... :o...!

Cheers all...;)...!

Paul...My memory fails me again... :-[...!

... ;D...!

N.B. The first attempt was posting the question in the wrong Forum... ;)...!

Your speeds are fine.

Rivatuner shows the true memory speed while the manufacturer shows the DDR speed (double).

Thanks for the reply, Bjorn...;)...!

Actually, with the "Coolbits extra tabs" add-on to the the standard nVidia Control Panel, an overclock test carried out, gave Core/Memory settings of 433/720 MHz with no increase in the Card temperature (41*C).

I'm a bit wary of maintaining these settings though, even though they boost my Frame Rates and Smoothness slightly... ::)...!

Cheers...!

Paul...(reduced the settings slightly to 400/700 MHz)... 8-)...!

Fiddlesticks OC till you start to see artifacts/abnormalities/high temps then back off 5 -10 Mhz.  :D

If they run fine, just keep 'em.

Even if you don't get artifacts while overclocking you're still pushing the card harder so it may still die faster than usual. ;)

The 7800GS is a cool card though :D and you can also up fan speeds in Riva tuna. Mmm tuna......
