Actually... post the tabs on the highest values you hit

It will show me where Asus has the ratio set on the 9x multiplier

Something else that does not make sense is LinkBoost not being in that BIOS. One of the advertising features of the board was that service. Unless it is a bIOS bug speciic to the 0502 BIOS where it is not detecting your 7950 card, I dont see that feature being removed.

I am going to do some research on that one. We did DISABLE PEG Link Mode which has influence on the same overclock function but I do not see anything in the manual that suggests if PEG Link Mode is disabled it will turn off LinkBoost

Something is not right in that area and I am going to check into that

I just got this from the Asus site:

Yes, this motherboard can indeed support NVIDIA LinkBoost technology.
However, please do note that this function is only available when working with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and 7900GTX series.

It does not say 7950 as it does in the manual

hmmmmmmmmm

Would it be worth reloading the old Bios?????

Naaaaaa

The new one is STABLE

dont mess with that BIOS

LOL

OK so 9 x 365 was the best you could do... so far this board and processor are following the numbers and the estimates. You are lucky to have that.

I did have you set

PCIEX16_1 Clock [100]
PCIEX16_2 Clock [100]

and I wonder when those are set to an input other than AUTO the LinkBoost feature is disabled. LinkBoost overclcocks the PCIe bus, not the card itself and we will be doing a bit of PCIe clocking manually when we wrap this all up at the end.

If you would please.. post the memory tab with that. I should have mentioned the memory tab is the one that will show the memory ratio as compared to the CPU

OK

Now I am seeing the math difference in the 590 chipset

Here is what had me confused...

In the past with AMD64 the way memory speed was calculated was based on this formula:

FSB x multiplier = CPU speed
CPU multi / RAM ratio = RAM divider rounded to the nearest whole number
CPU in MHz / RAM divider = RAM Speed

The RAM divider calculation can be made simple but for technical purposes other motherboad chipsets work it like this:

CPU Multiplier (9x) / 2:1 (DDR400)

I would like you to post one more simple test for me.. It can be tomorrow

just to settle the math issue once and for all. I want to try a really odd-ball combination and see if it follows the formula

That will be the normal settings (not clocked) but the following changed:

CPU Frequency [209]

Well, the CPU is right on but we missed it on the memory speed and HT.

You caught me right before I hit the sack...

HT is 627 because the CPU<->NB HT Speed [5xCPU Frequency] is curently set to 3x.. no biggie and its right on the money

I see what I posted was not clear, but I wanted you to set the system back to the default, non clocked numbers before running that.. again no biggie

As for the memory, that's a different story and even with what is set in the BIOS, it should have still been exactly 348.05 by every calculation we have run up to this point.

And guess what.. it is using the OLD formula for that memory speed:

13x (multiplier) divided by the RAM RATIO of DDR2 667 which is 5:3 or 5/3 and equals 1.6666666666666666666

so 13x / 1.666666666666666 = 7.8 rounded up to 8 for a RAM Divider

CPU Speed = 2717 divided by the RAM Divider of 8 = Drum-roll please........

339.625

rounded off to 339.6

Dang Asus... they throw odd balls in every time!!

LOL, I will take the blame for that one. I read what you said to do and spaced out when I got into the BIOS. But I need an excuse so will claim EST here. :o

Except for the 3 changes, the bios is set back to default.

Fortunately this bios had a bios profile saver so it will not be hard to get to the last OC settings if need be.

If you notice the different color with the pictures, the last ones were done in XP with Irfanview and the others were done in Vista with the Snip Tool. That is a very nice utility they put in Vista.

I played with the system this morning and tried to run 3DMark06 at the higher settings but that was a no go. Set it back to where the processor was running at 3200 and it ran with no problem.

The core peaked at about 60 Deg on the stock cooler.

Yep, I am thinking the limit here is going to be around 3200 on the cooler you are using.. but we will see. We have to add in the memory timing boost and the PCIe boost too. It probably wont take long now to lock this down.

60c is the peak limt I want that to go so you are OK at this point.

I figured out what they are doing

I will post numbers in a minute..

After we lock down the system clock and it runs 3DMark several times without issues I will give you PCIe numbers to bump and retry the stability tests.

Keep in mind that after all this is all locked down you may still experience a random crash in FSX or other apps that can force a weakness to the surface. I will give you some variables to work with in the memory timing
