Urgent Help Needed, My Computer Is About To Die!

Postby an-225 » Tue May 01, 2007 11:30 pm

I need help, fast. I'm getting runtime errors, out the wazoo, I have had a warning pop up telling me my memory is not sane. When I try to fly LOMAC/play BF2142, it crashes on load or in the menu/lobby. On startup of the computer, I get a notification about missing binary numbers in one of my BF2 mods. I have had the BSOD at least a dozen times in two days. I have tried system restore - didn't work. I have tried reinstalling windows and reformating - I get a message notifiying me that the XP disc cannot be read. On one crash, I sent an error report to MS, they came back telling me there was something wrong with one of my drivers. I did a scan and it shows no errors. I have done a virus scan too, quarantining and deleting suss files. Can someone PLEASE help! Please, it cannot die now, I can't afford another computer...

Did you get it to a computer expert like a tech shop or something that has professional people? ;)

I have a hunch that this is the OS. if you reinstall Windows it might help. :)

Alright, what exact hex codes are you getting from your BSODs? It sounds like you have a few issues. First being faulty RAM, and secondly a bad Optical drive. But get back to me with those BSOD hexes and I'll see what I can do.

A BSOD hex will look like this: 0x0A or 0x7E etc. There are going to be a crap load of zeros, just cut out all except the last two digits and we are in business.

When you tried to reinstall your OS, did you put the CD in and do a hard reboot so the computer will boot from the CD and not the HD?

I'm suspicious you might be the victim of some nasty virus or trojan.

Since it seems you did a system restore before a virus scan it is possible the restore process also made backups of any malware/virus files on your system.

Exactly, purge System restore by turning it off, then run your virus/spyware scans. Virus scanners can't scan System Restore files.
