X2 6000

Postby GunnerMan » Sun Apr 29, 2007 12:18 pm

Hey guys well been gone a while and just looked on and saw that all these cpus and ram have gotten incredibly cheap. I did a little research and found people were getting some good results with this cpu. I plan to do a build in the May timeframe before the prices go up. Does any one have this cpu that can tell me a little about it, how it runs with Vista, FSX, and what its been overclocking to.

Gunner, Nick is in the process of helping me OC the chip now. I have the 6000 mounted on an ASUS Crosshair board with Mushkin memory.

3.285Gh Seems to be about the max with the stock cooler but we have not finished fine tuning it yet.

I have not loaded FSX on this system yet. Am waiting until we finish with the overclocking and SP1 comes out.

Hows about for $265 you run down to newegg and grab the E6600 Core 2 Duo insted of the 6000+ Much better CPU, Infact its currently number 4 from the top of the world.

Cheers

In the next 60 days Intel will be going on a price rampage for their better processors. I would not buy anything lower than a E6700 and that would only be if I was very desperate. E6800 and up is a better choice if one is looking to keep it for a while and not end up bottlenecked.

Barcelona will be out by the end of june-july and Intel intends to try and p$$ on AMD's parade with price cuts. Wholesale prices will drop by 50%

Well that is if AMD actually makes it to July. I'll try to find the article, but I remember reading a financial analysis for AMD and the concensis was that if they kept on the way they were going that they would run out of money at the end of June, and have to file for bankrupcy.

Poor AMD. Yay Intel, thanks for making me really want a E6700 and making it affordable.

Well, "If" there were any truth in that, I would suggest you buy Intel before the prices skyrocket.

Cam

When you go to school, make sure to include a good portion of business with your degree. Even a minor in it would help you past the difficulties you are having understanding how business works.

[quote]I will post the tech information when I get a change but matching apples to apples, AMD holds its own until you get to the E6600-6700.

and lets just immagine for one second what you say is true about AMD running out of money... which it isn't

With the designs they have which are proven now to work and in the process of being produced.. I dont think any major financial institution will be dumb enough to turn them down for a loan, which can be paid off in 3-9 months or less if that CGPU ends up taking over the OEM market where the real money is.

LOL

live and learn

Intel would never drop the price of their processors even if Barcelona was twice the speed of Core 2. They would just wait and let the company fold.

get real

And on top of that.. why on earth would you cheer for AMD to die. They're the ones who forced Intel into selling CPUs at reasonable prices. Affordable, gaming computers are AMDs gift to us all. If they fail and it's only Intel left standing.. we'll go back to ridiculously expensive CPUs... Competition is our friend  ;)

One of a few articles where I am getting this from.

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't want Intel to be the only processors on the world, but AMD really has shot themselves in the foot here. I mean off the article numbers alone they are down $8 Billion. I mean honestly, they haven't made any major gain since acquiring ATi, and on top of that Its looking like desktop K10 is at least a year off, and R600 is still at least 2 months off. So they need some HUGE push to get them back on the profit wagon.

I understand how competition works, and I understand why I shouldn't be cheering the downfall of AMD, but seriously AMD fans have been WAY too smug for quite a long time, and its nice to see them switch allegiances.

That rag is only one step up from the Inquirer... and about 50 steps down from a real source such as the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, or EE times along with an entire list of rags I would trust more than that site.

You kids need to learn there is a difference between a spam-job news post for headline search engine optimizing and a real news source.

You shouldn't be wanting AMD to go to the wall. Even if you hate them. Intel will corner the market and basically do whatever the hell they like with their prices. Competition is good for the consumer...so there's no "Yay" from me.

Well from reading the posts it looks as if a lot has been happeneing in the cpu world on the admin side of things. It also sounded like there is some new tech hitting the market in a month or two after. Im not big on analyzing earnings and things for a company. I care about what tech they are putting out. I do like AMDs cpus and want to stick with them as long as there is not a substancial difference between it and said Intel chip because I am a beliver in supporting the small guy and as said having a single chip company to choose from is not fun at all. The more selection the better imo. I guess I will stay put with what I got for now and see what happenes in a little bit.
