ACER N50 PDA Wireless Security Issues

Postby Ace_777 » Sun Apr 08, 2007 4:16 pm

Hi there,
I most of the time use my ACER n50 to surf the web using my wireless internet connection (WPA-TKIP protected). The n50 has a 2GB SD card in it which contains photos, music and video.

I was wondering if I was secure against hacking threats? For example could someone in my area or a hacker on the web get into the memory card and take these photos as I'm surfing. What about if I log on to an unsecured network, can someone then view my files?

However the photos and confidential files are encrypted using the Air Scanner Encryption program ( see URL below for more information).

Many Thanks!

If you leave yourself vulnerable you can definately be hacked, as well as have someone else use your bandwith for their own "activities".
Install and use the highest levels of encription possible and you're relatively safe. If someone really wants to get in there's always a chance they will, no security method is 100% perfect. All we can do is make it difficult enough to discourage them.

PPC's and PDA's HATE WPA. If you must, use WEP, however MAC filtering is the most secure of all.

MAC address filtering is hardly secure. MAC addresses can easily be spoofed by just about any hacker with a bit of common sense.

If you're really worried about security then wireless isn't the best way to go. If someone wants in your wireless they most likely will get into it if they know a little bit about Linux and packet sniffing.

As for protecting against attacks over the internet it's important that your router's hardware firewall is properly setup to close ports.
