Am I impressed?
Nah.
It's gonna take two or more years to get games which will need/benefit/use all the features of the nearly arrived stuff.

The R600 will eventually shrinked to 65nm! Amazing, on the Inq, it claims we may have 8800GTX perfomance for 8800GTS price! I love you ATI.... Oh wait, I always have.....

, this is where we will see if ATi pulls away as the leader in graphics technology once again.
Thanks for reply Nick., this is where we will see if ATi pulls away as the leader in graphics technology once again.
IMO, ATi has always been infront since the Radeon 9 series......
ATI has lost much of its appeal ever since AMD bought them.
Sure, this will benefit future chip characteristics, as Nick pointed out, but it's horrible on an economical base. I fear things like "ATI is only gonna work 100% with an AMD CPU" and the infamous "market moloch" who sells great products, but can dictate prices and a good part of the market.
Nvidia used to be the "bad guy" for me, ever since they bought 3DFX, but now that AMD controls ATI...good bye to the good old competition days.
P.S: The 9700Pro was an awesome card nonetheless.
If ATi has the the ability to flood the market with CGPU's and other technology they can drop their price significantly, Nvidia has no choice but to lower their prices and play fair.
If you think those two are bad, if you were a fly on the wall at a Intel / motherboard rep or Intel / Computer rep meeting and the manufacture was give the public something Intel didn't like, you would see something like this:
