fast memory vis fast cpu

Hi -

I am planning a self build
it is to use

Asus  P5N E sli 650i board
CPU Core Duo E6300
OCZ PC2 DDR2 6400 4 4 4 12 timings 2 gig
XfX 7900 GS 450 core
Hipper pwer 560w

With all the bits hopefully it should run the FSX  and not too a high price. I would like to fly together on the internet.

The idea behind using good memory is to over clock. However, if I used a e6400 and used cheap memory - it would work out much the same price but not able to over clock.

What do you think - faster CPU - generic memory 2gig
or slower CPU - good memory and overclock.

The idea behind the graphics is to sli it with another in the future as an update.

Get at least 2 Gigs of PC6400 DDR2 for a Core 2 Duo.  And dont get the E6400, if you are trying to save money get the E6300 and the good RAM, and overclock it past E6400 speeds.

*And i know a lot of people are reccomending Hiper PSUs, but you might want to look at a higher wattage/quality PSU if you are going to be upgrading later on to SLi, I dont think that PSU can handle SLi

the 7900 comes in two flavours 500 memory and the 250 memory. I was drawn to the XFX 250 7900 as it has faster memory and seems overclockable.

The difference between the E6300 and E6400 is the multiplier. Everything else is the same. So using cruddy RAM with it isn't going to help any more than using good RAM with the E6300.

As for the rest of the parts.....GAAAG!!!! Whats your budget, what else do you need besides parts (OS, keyboard Monitor etc).

You are useing hardware that is not going to preform the way you want at all. Take for instance, the Hiper 560. The voltages are a bit out of wack on that one. Now spend a bit more, and get a Type R 580W. Much more stable.

Give me your budget, and I will get you a parts list that will maximize every dollar. If you don't believe me, ask around, I know my stuff and have rarely steered a newbie wrong.

I am on a limited budget and planned to give myself something I could upgrade and also overclock.

Here is my shopping bill - I have not ordered anything  -but my budget is 655 pounds (1200 dollars )  - I could stretch to 700 - and then I am stuck

THe idae was to over clock and then upgrade as I can afford with better CPU, sli the graphic cards, and more memory.

the graphic cards come in 500 mb  or 256 mb flavours  -the 256 looks faster memory and perhaps more overclockable.

I'm not sure that I would go with a SLi rig with that motherboard. The 650i isn't that great of a chipset for overclocking. So if thats what your planning to do, you may want to rethink your motherboard choice. Other than that, I would also recommend against vista. Gaming preformance is truely horrable, and even with that hardware FSX will be a slide show. I suggest getting an XP OEM with a Vista upgrade ticket.

Which would be  a good suggestion of mother board, not too high cost  -yet can be cranked up ? I take your point of slide show - sad about Vista = I thought it would be the biz. I am going to increase the budget for the better CPU and leave the OCZ memory.

Apon doing some further resurch, the 650i is a fine chipset. If you don't plan on going past 3Ghz on that CPU for an overclock, you should be fine. Its only the high clocking that makes it unstable. Basically its a stripped striker extreme.

The only other combination that I could think of is a

Gigabyte GA-P965G-DS3 board with a single 8800GTS 320mb. Would offer the high clocks, but only a single card solution.
