nVIDIA DirectX 10 Cards

since I'm not the type to search endlessly for, or hear news about the latest hardware stuff, I might as well ask here.

When do ya think nVIDIA will release higher-end DirectX 10 cards that'll be better than the 8800 GTX (e.g. GeForce 8950 GTX2)?
Do ya think nVIDIA's upcoming SLI2 stuff be better than the current SLI we have going?
When do ya think PCI-E2 will come about?

8800GTX are expensive but they do make it flyable if coupled with a fast processor.  With everything on Med-High or higher I typically get  50+ fps running 4 monitors, even at airports and over cities it only drops to about 30 fps.  With the 7950GX2 I was lucky to get 15-25 fps.

8800GTX is the G80 which is currently out.
The G80 will be replaced by the G81 in Q1/2 this year.

I can't find any info about the G81 other than it has a 65nm architecture.  I expect it will be an overclocked version of the 8800GTX.  The names it has been given are 8900 and 8850.


The G90 will be out in Q3/4 this year.

(Predicted) G90 specs (to be named 9800GTX)

* 55nm Architecture
* Native Support for Dual-core Alternative Cards (Dual-Core G90)
* Over 1 Ghz Core Speed
* 64 Unified Shader Units
* GDDR4 XDR2 @ over 2Ghz
* Quad SLI Support
* May have a dedicated PPU on Board


I'm highly interested in the G90 for the PPU.  Also it comes out right when i'm going to build a new system 8-)

Right. So going up two generations of cards in less than a year? Impossible. Midrange iterations of the G80 are not even out, let alone programs that actually use there features. Memory capable of feeding a card as fast as the G90 would be uber, costing thousands of dollars.

Your not going to see the G90 for a few years....

Here is my PREDICTION:
Mid 2008 year the 8900 is introduced. It is based on 80nm technology, has 1gb 512bit GDDR4, and higher clocks. It will be like 7800GTX to 7900GTX. A small step for graphics. Nothing huge.

Then mid 2009 the G90 is introduced.

GDDR4 XDR2 @ over 2Ghz

Don't know if you can have GDDR4 XDR2.  Isn't that like saying 'I have  GDDR2 & DDR2 at the same time'?

PCI-E 2

Doubt that will take off for a few years. Current cards only use a fraction of PCI-E's bandwidth.

SLI2

The only thing I see with SLI2 is better scaling. 2 cards for twice the performance, instead of the current 2 cards for 1.5 times the performance of a single card solution. SLI two should also work with ALL games.

The G81 is to rival the R600, the G90 is the intended to be the replacement and keep AMD/ATI down.

I expect the two RAMs are due to precise details not being known, as i expect Nvidia don't normally release details until closer the release date.

The G81 won't be out for R600. Though it may be designed to rival it. G90 will NOT be out this year either. Or probably not next year either.

OK, I was wrong. G81 (8900GTX) is coming out to spoil R600 launch. Won't really spoil it IMO, as R600 has better memory, the same amount of shaders but with higher clocks, as well as being only 9" long.

What happens when ATI releases the X2900 (which will crush G81)? Will Nvidia have to develop a 8950, or will they just rush the G90 and then release it early AGAIN?

by that time MS may come out with FS11... and the best vga cards than will not be able to handle it at max...
I'm personly mad pn MS thay are selling FSX, and "no vga" money can buy, will handle it when at max, why?

B.t.w. 8800gtx in fs9, I can max max evrithing, fly above JFK with high traffic, and I will have locked 60Fps!
I wold like to use now fs9, but I love the missions and also the real feel is FSX! in FS9 is impossible to fly helicopters.
