Dual-Core CPU

I'm a little cornfused regarding the dual-core. Can I use a single core processor and later upgrade to a dual-core if needed? I'm thinking about buying an Asus Crosshair mobo which has a single AM2 slot. Is the cost for a dual-core processor worth the benefits. I don't do much multi-tasking but of course I,m a flight simmer (FSX). Does a single core AMD processor go above 3500+?

Go for the dual core. It's worth it in the long run. The highest single core is the 4000+.

DO NOT buy AM2, if u want AMD (why wouldnt you  ) go 939 (dead socket unfortunatly) or wait a few months for the new AMD socket to be released...its AM3 or AM2+ not sure what its going to be called.... but wait

and if u wait anyminute now someone will post and say

Yep, well if you have the option, going the Allendale/Conroe route is your best option.

Why go 939? It's older than AM2 and doesn't support DDR2. I can see no advantages. It's not much cheaper, and the CPUs are out of production.
