Keyboard and CAT6 Problem

Postby Scorpiоn » Mon Feb 05, 2007 6:24 pm

These are not major issues, but still are more important than annoyances.

Keyboard: When I try remapping my keys in Max Payne 2, it always says F19.  That is to say, when I go to enter in a key for an action, regaurdless of what I push, F19 is what comes up.  What I know so far, is this doesn't seem to be from any key.  If I double click whatever function so that it is ready to accept commands, if I push no button and simply wait, F19 is accepted as the key function.   No key on my keyboard is stuck in the down position.   The best way I can describe this is that there is a "virtual" button being pushed every 2 seconds.  Curiously, this does not happen in other games, such as CS.  Although Valve games do inhibit superior coding.   I thought this was a Max Payne 2 error, however the same thing now happens in Max Payne 1.  Something has gone awry, of course, but I do not use this PC for teh intrawebs; virii and spyware are out. The only dubious installation I've made is gamespy - for the Battlestations: Midway Demo - although I quickly had second thoughts and removed it.  The gamespy, I mean.  I tried various Googles, but alas, none were to bear fruit on the subject (of F19 and.or Max Payne 1/2).

CAT6 Cable:  Quite simply, the physical, little tab that keeps the jack physically connected in the port broke off awhile ago.  I bought some replacement jacks, as I've heard people make their own cable, but I never got around to doing anything with it.  I have to grab the cable if I want to move my laptop around lest the cable fall away.  Can I replace the jack?  Most things I've found on the interwebs don't seem to quite address my issue. :P

Stay away from the plugs that have that black block that goes in from behind... they will drive you insane.
Trust me, I've terminated thousands of data cables.
Get a pack of regular RJ45 crimp connectors and any old cheap crimper... and make sure your pin-out matches on both ends (easiest way to guarantee this is to re-do both ends).
