Go for the E6600 if you don't plan on overclocking.

Most of its your orrigional stuff, but other is stuff that is more fitted to gaming. The eVGA card clocks much higher than the BFG tech does. The E6400 is a waste of cash, the E6600 is a much better processer. The motherboard and PSU you chose were right on the money. The RAM you liked, was again a waste. The OCZ sticks I suggest are excellent sticks. Also you may notice that there isn't a sound card, this is because onboard sound has become so good, that getting a card just isn't worth it.

I'm a big fan of the raptor drives that spin up at 10,000rpm. They are a little more expensive but really do help in speeding up load times no end  :)

I may pick one of those up eventually for my computer, but probably not until I do my next big upgrade when I put in a DirectX10 card.  To add to Cams note about onboard sound, usually sound cards will not make much of a difference anymore unless you really want Creative XFi features ingame, and alot of games have glitches and problems with those drivers anyways.  If you have a weaker CPU and want to take some of the the load off of it, then that is usually only when a sound card is necessary.

Actually there are some serious issues with the XFi cards and NF5, so one is ill recomended. If you need a Midi joystick get the USB conversion.

Another thought I had was instead of 1 large HD what about 2 smaller ones with the OS on one and Apps on the other.  Would it speed things up at all?

Man my two year old X850 with a P4 650 can still max out a few new games, and run most games on medium to high

Some of those old systems are worth a fortune if they are in in excellent condition and still run. The biggest problem is the software. If the person kept yearly backups of the software onto media so the data did not degenerate, its worth even more.
