It is not a good idea to take advice from an internet forum with face value anyways, I thought that was common sense. However, if you research this PSU I doubt you will find anything really "bad" about it. The PSU gets very positive reviews. Although, reviewing a PSU requires a lot of technical knowledge, and most sites do not perform in depth reviews. The PSU is good value, I haven't seen anything better for $100. However, I wouldn't use it in a $2000 rig.
If it is the PSU I would get it replaced to avoid damage to the system.
Yes, I was trying to give a heads up to people who don't do enough research...like meIt hasn't completely died on me yet, but when it does, I will be looking into a PC Power and Cooling or an Enermax supply next time round. To add to this, I still believe it is a fantastic PSU, and I am not completely going to suspect it for my problems, because if a PSU died, would the system try to reboot, or would the fans stay on on the PSU to cool it off (feature of the Type R). I know that the 965 chipsets do have restart problems, so I am looking into that too.
Where did you buy it? You may have gotten one of a bad batch that are still floating around, just ask GeForce he got one of these. Newegg, I believe has a crop of these in their invintory.
Personally I have used to date 6 Type R's and not one has given me any sort of problem. The current one in my rig has been well pushed and continues to be stable. Pimp ring, and several other sites have given it much praise for its ability.
HOWEVER! If your running a multi processer, SLi, 4+ hard drive RAID rig, with everything pushing max clocks and also cooling that stuff, yea the Type R is not at all the unit you should be useing. Nick is right there, but with the rig you have setup, it should preform wonderfully. A close friend of mine just setup something very similar and the Type R works flawlessly for him.
If you must PC Power and cooling would be the way I would go if not the Type R.
Cheers
