Windows black screen

Postby Sytse » Mon Dec 04, 2006 7:22 am

There's something wrong with my puter. :(

When I turn it on everything seems fine until windows starts. I hear the startup sound and I hear skype starting up, but all I see is a black screen.

It will start normally in safe mode, but I don't know what to do to make windows work in normal mode.

Could it be my video card? (ATi Sapphire Radeon X1900XT 256 MB, latest drivers installed) I have the idea that it doesn't support my default resolution anymore...

Does anyone know what's going on?  :-?

Sounds like those new drivers ain't workin' out. I would load the previos drivers and see what that does. If that fails to help I would be checking hardware configurations. Last resort is get a new video card, or an old one that you know is good.

The drivers were working fine for 2 months... :-?

You see, I didn't change anything. It just stopped working right... :(

I have to know where the problem lies.
Few possibilties:

- Videocard (hardware)
- Drivers
- Windows
- Monitor (hardware)
- Power supply (hardware)
- Motherboard (hardware)

My specs:

Intel Core 2 duo 6300 Allendale (1,86 GHz)
Kingston 1024MB DDR2 (2x512) PC5300 667MHz CL5
Asus P5B motherboard
ATi Sapphire Radeon X1900 XT 256MB
Antec 450 W SmartPower 2.0
Seagate 250GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB Barracuda 7200.10

If it's normal until windows loads the monitor is working at the hardware level. Do you have a repair disk? It sounds like a problem with a program not liking resolution settings or video drivers. Does anything else open besides Windows?

Well... I'm in VGA mode now and everything works fine. I do have to scroll half an hour on each website though.  :-[ ;D

I think (and hope) it's the drivers, so I'll try to reinstall them.

Tnx

Ok... everything is working again!  :D
I just uninstalled the GPU in safemode, restarted windows in normal mode and let it auto-detect the card. Easy as that!  :P

Thanks for your help!  :)
