Speechless

Postby Cobra » Tue Nov 28, 2006 2:07 pm

Okay, i just re-built my computor as was kinda fecked with virus's etc...thus deleted all my music. Had it on my iPod so I thought no biggy, will just copy it back on. Then guess what, my iPod dies on me!!!!!

5000+ songs on there, not backed up anyware else! What can I do????!?! My iPod turns on, but just doesnt do anything, you can hear the harddrive moving around etc, the screen comes up with an error message (exclamation mark with a folder).

Checked Apple site, best case scenario it says to format the iPod, which I really dont want to do.

I found somewhere that putting it in a sandwich bag and popping it in the freezer for a few hours can help resore hardrives? Planning on doing it in a bit, so reply quick if its a bad idea lol...

Thanks in advance, Mike

(btw tried reseting it)

Look on the apple support site on how to put your Ipod into disk mode, you may be able to recover your files that way.  As soon as your Ipod starts up I believe you hold the pause/play and menu button (depends what model you have) and it should says disk mode, which essentially lets you access the core folders of your ipod, as if it were a harddisk.

Cheers Viper :) I actually use this program called iPod agent, does it for you. That way does sound easier, just not 100% how to do it...

And excelent news!! The freezer thing worked!! Got all music back!! One happy guys atm!

Does anyone know why it works? Basically my iPod is totally unresponsive unless its really cold, for instance i put it in the freezer, took it out...started copying songs but it stopped once it warmed up. Now i have it here 'on ice' and its working perfectly? Really wierd isnt it?

I believe thats improved conductivity of the electricity or something like that..... I always thought those science classes were worthless.... Guess they had a purpose

It is improved conductivity of electricity.  The electrons are not bouncing around as much when they are cold and they wont bump into each other slowing down the electron flow (sorry just got out of physics) ;D  Sounds like your ipod has a dead hard drive.  Maybe you should send it in for repairs.
