Dual Core, Quad Core Hit a Snag

I read an article by David Sassen regarding the applicability of up coming dual core/quad core technology which I found very interesting. Check it out at "hardwareanalysis.com" and let me know what you all think.

Dual Core is pretty much a waste at the moment. However, the Core 2 duo which just happens to be dual Core, is extremely fast, even in single threaded applications.

When Vista comes out, dual core will be a nessescity.

I disagree. Duel core is not a waste of money by any measure right now. Vista is less than two months away, and therefore making the switch is a very wise investment. Also since 70% of the forum has made the switch to FSX, we have seen how game tech in the future is going to require these chips. Also apps such as photoshop, or final cut pro take advantage of the duel core setup to maximise preformance.

Quad core on the other hand, while good for servers, is not at all something that someone would need in a home PC. Vista will change this due to the plethera of software that is going to be coming out to take advantage of this, but currently nothing is around that needs it.
