whats the best cooling?

as I understand the cooler the CPU, the higher the performence, so I'm looking for the best cooler, I dont care if it is a fan, water, freon, or liqwed hydrogen...as long as it freezes up the chipset!

a high price is not a problem as long "I get what I pay"

I think your a bit misguided. A CPU does preform better when its temp range isn't a large one, and a temp range in the high twenties and maxing in the fourties. HOWEVER What super cooling is really for is overclocking. Say my processer the 550J Prescott idles at 40*C and its load temp is 58*C. Now that I have overclocked and overvolted it I needed the best cooling possable to keep it cool. After clocking to 3.98Ghz I added a Zalman CNPS9500Cu (The best aircooler on the market) to keep it cool. Even with the overclock it runs 38*C idle and 52*C load. At stock Clocks I get around 25*C idle and 41*C load. Its quite nice.

This is the Zalman CNPS 9500Cu Testing proovs that its better than watercooling. Yes its a $60 Hunk of copper with a fan, but its quite amazing.

Okay, copper is a material that speeds up the transfer of heat from a hot surface to the air. The Zalman basically funnels the rising heat into a cylinder which the fan blows out of your case. Watercooling works in basically the same fashon. A copper block causes heat to rise, however insted of a fan blowing the air out of the case, water is forced into a maze inside the block. The heat transferes into the cold water and is pumped away to be radiated out of the case again.

The 9700 is okay, but its bigger and heavier. It does cool a little bit more, but not all that much more. In my oppinion only 18mm isn't going to cool that much better.

The 9700 appears to have a much greater surface area though due to it's slightly larger diameter, As long as it will fit into the case  :)

If you have a 939 processor, get the 9700, if you have an LGA 775 processor, get a 9500.  Those are the best Zalman heatsinks in my opinion.  I can't really afford the 9500 for my processor though, so I think I'm gonna have to go with the Arctic Freezer 7

You should find that the mainboard will be the limiting factor on the Conroe 6800 overclock yf.

Because of that, Air Cooling with a good cooler such as a Thermaltake Big Typhoon or one of the better Zalman coolers like the 9700 or even a 9500 will keep the cpu cool enough for a max overclock.

I believe many people using the conroe cpu's are not having to add too much Vcore (core voltage) to get a good overclock.

Adding Vcore is what causes the cpu to heat up and it's also what causes the cpu to wear out, so minimum Vcore at max o/clock is what it's all about. I suspect many a Conroe will get max overclock straight from the supplied stock cooler.

I run a max overclock on my CPU with the stock cooler, heat is not the issue, my cpu just won't go any faster and that's it  :P

Your on a Conroe? Wow, wish I knew. Yea the CNPS-9500 is more than enough to cool it. When Maximum PC did their overclocking tests on the X6800 they turned off the fan on the CNPS-9500 and they still couldn't get it over 48*C when at load. And that was with a 3.8Ghz Overclock if I remember right.
