looking for graphics card but no clue whatsoever??

Postby gavinprice02 » Sun Oct 22, 2006 5:06 am

FSX Graphics are pretty rubbish on my PC the plane textures are blurred and the trees sometimes have square outlines. I'm looking to update my Graphics Card but I honestly don't have a clue about what type is suitable for my pc or what is a fairly decent one.
I've managed to get hold of my pc specs:-

-ASUS A7V-8X-A-L DDR 333MHZ MOTHERBOARD
-AMD ATHLON XP2800+ CPU
-1024MB (2x512MB) PC2700 DDR-MEMORY (333MHZ)
-120GB ULTRA FAST(7200RPM) HARD DRIVE WITH 2MB BUFFER
-ATI 128MB RADEON 9500 TV DVI

I don't really want to spend loads of money probably about
My specs
I7920 4ghz
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
6gb Corsair DDR3 1600
BFG GTX285OCX
Windows 7 64bit

To be honest I would probaly keep saving the money you have and wait until DX10 comes out. That way you can have a great card put into your new rig, rather than having an OK card now, and then a 'better' card in your new comp.

I assume that is an AGP system. The best you could do in the

Actually you probibly could get a X850XT which would be a good buy. Again though, your running AGP, so your not going to be able to even buy a DX10 card for that PC.

cheers for the help, just out of interest, what's AGP? and also can someone send me a link to the actual products themselves, because there seems to be a few different versions

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_Graphics_Port - What AGP is.  ;)

A new graphics card will reap major benefits with that rig.

The X850XT is a better card for less money.

True, but, some of us would rather poke our eyes out than buy an Ati for numerous daft reasons.  :P ;D

got the GeForce in the end guys, and must I say, what a great improvement.  It's even improved frames a little, but still flying in cities is a big no no with my FPS. Would upgrading the RAM make a difference to this?

Adding a second gig of RAM may be a good idea, but its not going to offer the drastic change you want, thats why you bought the graphics card.
