Ran into a little problem

Yep.... I was looking at this beauty of a heatsink of mine (Zalman CNPS 7000B) and the instructions, and I thought what the heck? Why not install it on my new computer.... at first I didnt think the motherboard had the holes for it, but it does, and they match the exact size of the zalman. So I went hmmm okay this should be easy, take the old heatsink off, install the nipple things, screw it down, and whalla (I did this outside of the computer to make sure it would work and to see if I had the instructions right without having to yank the motherboard out) well..... the stock CPU is being one pain... I unlocked its little latching thing, and unscrewed one screw... not both (For obvious reasons) and it did not loosen!!! Now how do I get the stock cooler off? heres a pic of my MB without the cooler..... now if I take the black thing off, will it come off entirely? and then I can get the stock thing off, then reatach the black thing and screw the zalman in and be done? or will I have to find what is bolting the Cooler down? From what I can tell.... nothing is..... kinda like super glue is on it lol....

Put it all back together and get it hot by running something intense on it for a while, 10 minutes or so I guess, then unlock it and remove it as soon as you do a fast shutdown.

Try to slightly rotate the cooler in the yaw axis while it's hot to break the joint.

They get stuck on by heat and the compound can get like glue. I saw a guy rip his AMD 2800+ in half trying to remove a heatsink on a cold CPU.

hmmm yikes, maybe I wanna leave it on there... lol, it wont get hot no matter what I do.... seriously the stock one works too good, I just want quiet! its a bit loud and noisy.... hmmm I'll see what I can do with it..... Blasted thing.... right now the lock is off and its on there..... has been for a few weeks (I know its prolly hanging) but its like there is a bolt I can't see somewhere

Link works fine for me. A 939 socket should just come right out after unlocking it. Try twisting it.

As for what congo said, Run 3DMark, trust me that will warm it right up.

I think the warmest I have seen it is prime 95 for like 15 minutes, was around 40C

EDIT: Now here's a stupid question.... where can I buy some thermal grease or paste? I know newegg and other online retailers have it..... but I am not exactly buying something to go with it..... I seemed to have misplaced the stuff that came with the zalman. I don't wanna pay 5 dollars in shipping something smaller than an ink pen!

Any good local independent PC shop worth it's salt should have some. If not perhaps a local PC builder.

Any TV / appliance repairer will have thermal paste as well, I usually get some for free just by asking a tech out the back or the proprietor if it's a small repair shop.

Thanks.... I was wondering if Best buy would have some.... I may go there in a few weeks if I get the chance. I just went to Grand rapids today and didn't think about thermal paste..... my memory!
