Want an 8800GTX for X-Mas?

Postby ctjoyce » Mon Nov 13, 2006 8:37 pm

Well so do I, but honostly $660 is way too much for a first gen GPU. However should you decide to go buy yourself one use this article to decide which company you want to order from.

Lets just say theres a reason why I use eVGA.

Pretty impressive.

Apparently somebody got a 3D Mark 06 score of 22,799 using two of these cards and dry ice.

Why do diferant brands of the same card use diferant amounts of power?

Want an 8800GTX for X-Mas?

Naaa... sure don't

If I was going to purchase something before xmas it would be the DFI LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G when it is released. DFI canceled their motherboard releases with the next gen of Nvidia chipsets because of the chipsets inability to overclock and instability bugs.

The 8800 has bug issues starting to surface..

The next gen ATI based DFI board will be the last ATI chipset that supports Intel processors (including quads and is speculated to be able to hit 1600+fsb) unless Intel stops its intimidation techniques... and that

Well I'm sticking with nVidia as I just can't stand ATi's drivers. But I agree with the idea against buying a 8800 card. Its a waste of money, insted I'm going to waste mine on a ASUS P5n32-E and a E6600 to match *smug smiley*

I heard that DFI is the only company making an R600 Intel board. Other companies are afraid to make them because of AMD's partnership with ATI.

I agree with the Not Right Now theory. By next July I hope everything has settled down so we can sort out what really is going to be available.

New CPUs, GPUs, PSUs, Memory and motherboards should be stable by then.

Pair that with the RD600 chipset of the DFI board and ye shall see the promised land once DX10 is launched

and debugged

That is correct.. Intel made a sweep of all companies to give them a 'warning'

I hear DFI showed the Intel man the door...

and sent Nvidia back to the drawing board.

Any company that would display bawls like that, I would buy the board even if it was not that good just to support the effort.

Its 64 unified shader pipelines with a built in arbiter processor which is all part of a unified shader micro architecture.

In other words, it won't waste time in a bottleneck like the Nv approach. I am thinking Nv may make a shift in design with their next production run.
