Yes, I'm good now, I was using a version 96.xx from guru3D and once I switched to the new driver it's fine.

I don't normally install new video drivers but I had an issue in IL2FB that needed these new drivers.

Have you tested your PC on any other heavy 3D apps than FS?

Grab a second hard disk, install windows on it, install FS onto it, and I bet it's cured. You can copy your present FS in it's place after renaming the new FS folder to something else. If you still have trouble then, you just know it's the old FS install that's problematic.

Are you using the same windows installation thats been giving you grief for some time or not?

I've been looking for excuses to format but my system just keeps on working nicely even though I try to frag it with heaps of experiments.

yes, thats correct. You should always cancel out the 'new hardware found' window.

You did not answer my question about apache.exe in your processes list... are you running a server?

I am just a little curious about something Luke.

What you described is not installing the driver at all, it's simply unpacking the compressed download into a folder.

What you get in that folder is not the drivers per se, but it's the driver installation program itself. If you open that folder and scroll to the end of it's contents, you'll see a "setup.exe" .............. That's what you click on to install the drivers.......... Did you do that

The far right pane in that pic with "setup" highlighted is the program to run I believe, but you haven't got file extensions enabled so I don't actually know what that setup file is. So it may not be the correct one for all I know.

Do you know how to enable file extensions so you can determine what types of files you are operating on?

You will know if the video driver installs, it should ask you for a reboot and your video settings/resolution will change on reboot.

I don't understand why that file you have highlighted is second on the list, Mine is always aphabetically near the end of the list.

You described your driver installation back a few posts, and it was not complete as you described it.
What you described was unpacking the driver installation program into a folder only, you didn't say that you ran the driver installation program itself. However, I do see the version no. of your driver as 91.47 so it looks like you did that.



Mobo drivers are indeed chipset drivers.





You Never, EVER install DirectX during a game installation, it will almost always certainly install or attempt to install an old DirectX version.
When ever anything asks you to install DirectX, deny it.

If you want the latest direct X, you'll find it was released

SP2 has dx9c built in I think, but MSoft have released a few updates to it, I'm not sure if they actually changed dx9c, but their site suggests that the new releases have some improvements, though I have not seen documentation on that. So I'm not really sure there are any real differences.

It begs the question, why then, release a DX update at all then, so I only assume the latest release is an improvement.

I run the latest direct X installer soon after I load windows onto a system regardless, I consider it an essential driver. That doesn't stop you from installing right now though, better late than never? Also, if you installed any DX version through a game installer and it messed up some files, the newest DX install may fix that.

It looks like you have 2 onboard networking cards, figure out which one you are using to connect to your router/network and then go into bios and disable the unused networking controller, this may resolve some conflict you are not aware of.

If you disable the wrong one, it doesn't matter, just go back and switch it to the other in bios.

Luke, to rule out a hardware fault, and blame the whole debacle on Windows is what you should try to achieve.

Managed to run nLite by downloading Netframework v2 instead of v1 I got.

Luke did you install the FS9.1 update? And if so, did you place the installer INSIDE the Flight Simulator 9 folder before launching the update?

I'm sorry I can't offer any suggestions on the missing files Luke. I have seen that problem only when I used a faulty WinXP install disk.

If you can install WinXP and SP2 normally onto your HDD, then maybe you'd better do that.

Because you are installing to a virtual drive, and not an actual bootable HDD, I'd rather not comment further as I have no experience in setting up Windows on a virtual drive.

When you want help with a real HDD, I'd be happy to help.

I'm still not clear on whether you have actually set up a new windows install on a freshly formatted drive. I now have no idea whether we are trying to fix your PC or fix a pretend PC?  ???

It is probably not a faulty WinXP as it loads otherwise OK, but it may be my " WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe" download. Will try to download again.

I Zeroed my real HD and rebuild 2-3 days ago & because of the above I used XPproSP1 then SP2 CDs.

Regarding fs9, here it is flying at Meigs in my Virtual HD, whilst I am multyplay the Ozy trip tonight on the real HD.

Odly enough in the Virtual installation is NOT jerky, just poor scenery because of the V.Machine  grfx drivers.

Downloaded again the "WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe" and the resulting nLite XP CD installed on Virtual HD OK, with no missing files this time.

This virtual thing is really amazing and easy to get used to, even for me!.

How else could I test my many nLites, without spoiling my running system?
