The only way you can find out is by doing some hard research on the cards.

The letter codes are sub-categories of the GPU series and they only mean something if they are manufactured according to the GPU makers reference design. This has not been the case unfortunately.

Video cards makers are intent on keeping the facts and specifications from the layman, they do not want you to draw direct comparisons and buy the right card, they just want to flog all kinds of crap.

The specs for GT, GS etc. are laid out in a reference design by nVidia or ATI.

GT = Graphics Terrific for those who shell out big bucks for a card because this is all your gonna get.

GTX = Graphic Terrific X-tra rip off for those suckers with way to much money or the poor sods that will just pay anything to get their sim working half decently so we put the right stuff on this board for bragging rights only and so our card shows up good in the reviews but don't even dream of one unless you fit into the 1% top wealth category on the planet.

GS = Graphics Sucks because we purposely crippled these cards so we could flog millions of them off to all you poor saps who we can't trap by any other means and if we didn't cripple them then how would we rip off every else with more cash?

It really depends on the individual card in question as to what comparisons can be made.

The review another thread here refers to the latest 8800 card being tested in FSX, and they were having some serious issues getting FSX smooth even though that card is far superior to anything we have seen up until now. It might be time for a re-think.

Thanks Congo, I wasn't sure what all that stuff was. I guess basically now I know I want a nVIDIA chipset, preferably a 7600 and now I am just weeding through all the companies like eVGA, XFX, etc. I think I am close to going with a XFX GeForce 7600 for now ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150185 ) and just upgrading later on down the road with a whole new PC.

Not a bad choice, but eVGA makes better cards

And for just $40 more you could get a 7900GS. Yes I know GS is suppost to mean "Graphics sucks" But with 20 Pixel Pipelines, and 20 Pixel Shaders, I can hardly agree. It is liturally twice the card that the 7600GT is.
