get a X850XT or above. ORRRR, get a 8800GTX :D

No offence but thanks for the spam. In certian respects the X850 is on par with the 7600GT, and the G80 core hasn't been released. If an ATi card were to be suggested it would have to be a X1950XT, however the 7900GT is about $50 cheaper.

That's ok.

It dosn't matter if they officially aren't released yet, you can still obtain them (However hard that may be) and they will be launched soon.

anyone who would purchase a G80 card without waiting until the next round of releases is wasting their money.. I dont care what the reviews state.

There is no software out as of yet to fully support them and when it is released, I for one would not wish to be stuck as a lab rat for the industry which will use the hard core gamers as their research and development department.

Also, how much will a G80 cost? If it will be the most expensive card on the market, can we even expect price drops for current generation hardware?

Any ultra high end card is a waste, and any card with no competition is a waste. However you must renember, anyone willing to pay $650 for a card TWICE as fast as a X1950XTX, will probably need that power.

Ok guys I am in search of good advice here.

I am dying to play FSX but from hearing everyone's horror stories I decided to wait it out and upgrade. So here is what I am planning on going with: http://www.directron.com/gse76gs512.html it's a GeForce 7600GS 512mb video card. Think it will work? I am running a Dell with a 2.80GHz processor and 1GB of ram. Any other suggestions in the $100-$150 price range as I am just a poor guy? I have no idea what to look for in a video card so any help is appreciated!

i suggest you do what im doing, save 700 dollars and get yourself the nvidia 7950dx2 for your pc, but make sure it suport it. is expensive but 512 bits and 1ghz sounds good to me, and stay put for my pics.

And I suggest you do some resurch before you blow $700 on a card. Getting a 7950GT or a X1950XT is a better choice now. Excellent preformance for around $280. Then you can take the other $320 that you were going to spend on a unnessasary card.

Also remember that we have the G80 and R600 cores from nVidia and ATi coming in about 3 months. Spending more than $300 on a GPU now is just stupid. Also know that the 7950GX2 is basically two 7900GTs strapped together. The preformance to price ratio sucks hard. Don't just go by big fancy numbers to assume that the card is good. Go to Anandtech to find out what the real preformance is.

when DX10 is released and my expensive G80 card is having growing pains... I would be fairly peeved if it comes down the pike the card needs to be replaced with the next gen release in order to get rid of my very expensive mistake..

however, that may not be the case. I simply learned years ago to let another sucker buy the first round of hardware or software that comes on the market while I sit back and observe the results.

I drop 500-1000 in fuel in my boat when I go up the coast, so money is not an issue. When I am ready next year, I will get everything right the first time around and you can bet my dust will be in allot of faces, including the recent 8800GTx

Yeah I would be quiet annoyed. Only thing is, I can throw money around fairly easily. When the 8800GTS is midrange, I'll boost myself to a highend one.

You guys are confusing me! ??? So should I wait a few more months and get a G80? I don't have any plans on FSX right now so I am thinking about getting a good 256mb card and enjoying FS9. Maybe a XFX 7600?? Or the eVGA 7600GT??

I would prefer a 7800GT or a 7900GS, but yes a 7600GT with some good payware could look very good.

Another stupid question, can someone explain GT and GS to me? I really really don't want to waste my money here and I am ready to order.
