Driver version

I have a an Nvidia GeForce 7300 SE 512MBand decided to check to see if any driver updates were to be found at Nvidia. I am now a little confussed because......

Windows tells me the following;
Driver version 8.4.6.6
Driver date 28/04/2006

The Nvidia website has the following;
Driver version 8.4.6.3
Driver date 05/07/2006

Now I always thought that the higher the version number the more up to date it is however my version number is "higher" but my release date is younger. Nvidia

The latest on the nvidia website is the official stable driver on offer.

You (or someone) must have downloaded the other driver from another site.

There is no need to mess with video drivers unless you have, or wish to create, some kind of problem, despite what rhetoric is being repeated....... parrot fashion.

It is the driver that the computer came loaded with direct from the shop. And if it is not the correct driver, then surly I will not be getting the "full power" of the card?

The information comes from control panel - system - hardware - device manager, click on graphic card and driver info. The rest, Nvidia website.

Also can't say that I have noticed that the card is junky, but I am still with FS9 and not FSX, but I am running duel core, so maybe that hides some of the "junky-ness".

The drivers are all very similar, possibly, the maker of your card modified a driver specifically for that card, and optimised it the way they saw fit, perhaps tweaking it for FPS benchmarking so it would show great results in tests, while sacrificing quality as a result.

There probably isn't more than 10% difference in performance no matter what mods are made to drivers.

There is no reason to update you driver at all from the one the manufacturer supplied unless you have an issue or just wish to experiment, all this bull about drivers is just so much hogwash.

Updating video drivers gives the consumer a sense that he is actively involved in updating and tweaking his system, when it has virtually no percievable effect.
