Maxtor HD's

Lately I haven't seen much Maxtor HD's in local stores but have seen a LOT of Samsung and Seagate ones....

My computer, which is like 4 years old, has 2 Maxtor 40GB HD's and is incredible they both have lasted so long.

My question is: are Seagate or Samsung ones better hard drives?? Because they're everywhere here + they're quite cheap.

From what I've heard Seagate and Western Digital are the best . To tell you the truth, allot of the newer Maxtors are having problems.

Maxtors are good, Seagates are somewhat cheap (But they work) Western digitals seem to work better than newer maxtors (Personal expierence their) but they are all hard drives..... as long as they are sata or the newest thing, they are good..... oh, and they have space to put things on! From what I have expiranced WD makes the best drives on the market, so their the only drives I use. Yet to have one fail.

To answer your question Seagate is better than Samsung.

I don't think it is incredible that your hard drive lasted 4 years.

I like personally like Western Digital, and Fujitsu, although Futitsu doesn't make mainstream drives anymore. But if you ever need a 15,000 rpm SCSI drive, get a Fujitsu.

Quoted for truth. I like WD, but Fujitsu has a much better 15K RPM than they do.

As for 10K goes, the Raptor is the king of drives. I'm throwing two 150GBs into my next system.

WD are as good as anything else IMHO. I've got 3 in this rig. I used to use Seagates, had one die strangely.

I always avoided Maxtors, my dealer advised me to get another brand even though he stocks Maxtors.

I've been sussing out the Samsung spinpoints, which are supposed to be the quietest, but I haven't owned them.

WD by the way, are quieter than the seagates.

Seagate bought maxtor... The maxtor 8 and 10 series is right up there with the IBM Deathstar... the 9 series was not that bad but had its moments.

WD would be the best choice for SATA or IDE .. my second choice for SATA would be Seagate.

Personally I have a 36.79GB FS9 folder, so you can see that the amount of adding you can do is crazy. Just remember until you have a terabyte that its not enough.

I've had 70 gig FS folders..... you can never have enough hard drives..... I had to buy a 120 gig just to keep my computer running at a feasible speed! but that computers gone now.... Cheers, Gunny

lol its a maxtor 120.... I have 2 WD 160s as well, both are IDEs..... I would use em but I dont have enough power adapters on the PSU! Cheers, Gunny
