You are running a Pentium 4? I think if you got a better video card your CPU would become a bottleneck. To run FSX with high detain you need a faster CPU.

Provided you're motherboard / memory supports it. I would upgrade to Pentium D and then get a 7900GT ;)

Son't bother upgrading now. We are too close to NF5, for a processer upgrade to be worth it. If you really want to make an upgrade, get a 7900GT or 7900GS, and wait for NF5. Then when that launches, grab a NF5 board, and a C2D E6600. Thats an upgrade worthy of making.

As for the CPU becoming a bottolneck, I believe that we have the same processer, and there is a very very minimal bottolneck with my Pressy, and my 7900GT.

NForce 5 is adding alot of things for Conroe. First off it was a chipset made for C2 and AM2, so the focous was on adapting and helping along those core archatextures. Also it was built with the 7+ series in mind, so there are things like linkboost (boosting the SLi transfer when two 7900s or better are installed) and and built in Wifi. Most are just gimickiy "Features" but personally they are worth it to me. The other nice thing about NF5 is that your not going to have to do a BIOS flash before you use the board. With the NF4 boards, you have to update your BIOS with a older CPU installed, then install the C2D.

Or you could just turn off the water effects and reduce the autogen a tad, until the software is released, reviewed, revised and then you know what to really get.

You could also buy a 7900GS as an interim card .... pre DX10 to get you thru with no further upgrades required until then.

Pre DX10 means any hardware that wasn't made to support DX10 features. Also no dont bother wateing for it. If your ready to spend about what I am ($2K range) on your next rig, seriously wate. What your going to be able to buy for $2500 in about 3 months is going to be almost twice what you can do now.

Well mabe not twice, but a huge leap.

Well thanks for your help,

Any way, will DX10 be ready for xp sp2 also? Or only for vista? and if getting a super PC I'm thinking about getting the
600watt power supply
N5 board
C2D E6600
7950 GT KO 512MB
What about ram and a "good" HD? Should I consider a raid?

Thanks for your help again!

DX10 will NOT work with Windows XP, or 2000. It will ONLY work with Windows Vista. So ithor you change to Vista and get all you can out of FSX, or you stay with XP and use DX9.

As for your parts, again for the PSU look at the Hiper Type R. Its by far the greatest PSU I have ever used, and now I can't stop pimping them. Then about the 7950, its just not worth it. Two 7900GTX are much better. Or best yet, just wate for the 8 series. On the hard drive issue, get one WD Raptor 150GB and your set.

Cheers

Are you sure you are not confusing 7950GX2 with 7950 GT?

7950 GT is $300, and it performs like a 7900GTX.

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/390/2/

7900 GTX is a waste of money IMHO. It is $100 more than 7950 GT and the performance gain is about 5fps.

I think the 7900GTX and 7900GT are not good buys anymore. The 7900GS, and 7950 GT have much better price to performance ratios.

When buying hardware look at some hardware reviews.
