That's looks like a nice board. That's a 7.1 sound chip though, I mean it should be just fine.

It's the same sound chip that's on my board.

You can use the sound driver that's bundled with the nvidia chipset drivers, or you can download a driver from realtek.

I think it's possible to load the drivers without installing the "soundman" utility. In any case, I disable the soundman utility as I'm not interested in it's feaures and I use windows

The sound driver is included, so no need to get the seperate audio driver.

Use the configurator to select the NF4 AMD platform driver package. The naming of the 64bit version says WinXP pro 64, so if you have WinXP pro, don't select that one unless you are running the 64 bit version of Windows. Here is a direct link to the XP32bit NF4 driver package v6.86

I notice soundman in your list, you might try disabling that interface and see if that's the problem.

You have the nvidia driver helper service active as well, any idea what that does? I always disable it with no ill effect as far as I'm aware.

What is Windows user mode driver manager  ???

Nvidia bundles nForce drivers and Realtek drivers in the same package? I can't uninstall the nForce drivers though. I can uninstall Realtek drivers.

Disabling soundman might have fixed it. I thought it was essential to the functioning of the drivers thats why I kept it running. I'll have to use the comp for a few hours to make sure. Thanks.

I never use any of the audio tools from the motherboard drivers. I have tried them in the past and never had good luck with them. I would uninstall everything audio and go to Realtek and get the latest release for the chip.

I have Realtek 8.1 on 3 boards with absolutely no issues.

Soundman does not cause any problems. i run it in my tray at boot. As a matter of fact you must set up soundman for the type of speakers you are running or the realtek drivers do not work right on my systems. I also use the graphic EQ to trim the audio where I like it.

Because of a severe hearing problem I use headsets with the onboard sound, I have 4 computers and 2 laptops and have no problem with any of them.

If I know for sure the neighbors are gone I crank up the speakers that are also hooked to the onboard sound card on my signature computer and have no problem.

I've never had any problems with my onboard sound.  Perfect 5.1 surround and sound quality.  My laptop is another story.  All these fancy, overblown PCMCIA are all asking for $100+ each.  Way too much if I just want to get rid of the interference noise.  I was considering getting one of those little USB sound cards, but I'm not so sure they'll work.

Everybody seems to say get a S.Card instead. But on my board, with the 2 SLI slots seems a S.card will be touching the 6600 V.card.

I looked a picture of your mobo, and when you use SLI you will have one free PCI slot (the one above the bottom PCI-E slot), unless you have absolutely gigantic video cards with heatsinks on both sides.

I like the way Asus arrange the PCI slots around the PCI-E slots.

To get the onboard audio to work you have to enable it in the BIOS and then install the drivers. Windows won't detect it unless you installed the drivers.

Did you notice how Flight1 rips on onboard audio when listing system requirements?

Low-end on-board sound chips are NOT recommended. A plugin sound card, such as a Soundblaster Audigy, is recommended. In some cases, sounds will not work correctly unless you have an adequate sound card.

Call me stupid but I can't find the drivers on the Realtek site. Also, people don't seem to be having a problems with the Abit drivers.

I have tried all combinations but no luck.

Google Realtek and comes 1st, click download.
Navigate to audio drivers, the 3rd down is WDM_A392.zip

What can I say.
Maybe the sound chip on mobo is bust, how could I find out though.

Also, sudenly when I try the "Restart" and when I change something in Bios, will not reboot with the screen power lite flashing brownish instead of green colour, unless I shut down completely & then start it again?

My Device Manager, with nvidia lot in, I can delete this one and install Reatek. None of the rest are deletable & none helps. Why two audio codecs.

I noticed that you have a question mark next to the ethernet controller. Did you install the nForce drivers?

What? You can't make changes in the BIOS? That's messed up.
