I went ahead and ordered the Gainward for my old A8V Deluxe tower. I was going to put it out to pasture but I decided someone could easily get another year or so out of that rig by grabbing an X2 4800+ off Newegg and slapping that and the Gainward 7900GS Bliss into it.

I'll give it to my grandson for his birthday in 2 weeks.

I know it

Nick, did you order the Gainward BLISS 7800GS Silent 512MB GS+?

If so please tell me, where you bought it and how much it cost you.
Can you please share your findings when you have it installed in you machine?

Thank you!

Overclockers UK is the ONLY place you will find it. The story is only 1500 were made by Gainward and O/C UK bought them all. O/C UK started selling the card in May so I dont know how many are left... or if that story is true about the limited supply. It could have been a bullshoot marketing story.

457USD delivered which means you can buy a PCIe SLI motherboard and a 7900GT for about the same price. But it is a true 7900GT(X) because it has the G71 core and 512 memory with a special cooler which is supposed to be 2x better than any Nvida cooler and 1/2 as loud. The only thing that makes it a "GS" instead of a GTX is the fact it is AGP instead of PCIe.

I will let you know how it works. I need to get the old tower out, remove the ATI x800xt and make sure the drivers are completely flushed out. I expect it by the middle of next week.

The 4800+ should be here tomorrow.

I thought the link Harold posted is a standard 7800GS core, not a crippled 7900GS.

Beaten by a X850XT. Where are you getting that from?

On a Danish site it is almost twice as fast as the X850XT. I don't know which particular model they are reviewing though. It is linked from the card they are making now.

http://www.hardinfo.dk/show.asp?page=6577

Touching base on this again.... that site is apparently not overclocking those cards. If they had properly overclocked an x800xt or x850xt using the right cooling hardware those two card would have been significantly higher on that chart. I use to run my x800xt with 16 pipes and DDR3 wide open @ 580 core 600 mem (1200) so the card would easily perform at or better than a AGP 7800 series Nividia.

He's not getting a car for xmas and I wont be going overboard on xmas like I am his birthday. I'll get him some good software, probably a copy of VISTA and FSX assuming the final VISTA product is available by then.

I would rather him be a nerd than a motor head. He can be a motor head all he wants after he gets his masters degree. A nerd with a degree from an Ivy League school can afford any car they want.
