My system review.

Postby Jimbo » Tue Aug 08, 2006 6:53 pm

Hi Chaps.

Just wondering if you could review my system as it as at the moment to predict if it will work fine with FSX. And can you please reccomend any alterations.

I feel if i needed to make any improvements i would probally (in a few months) upgrade my CPU to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX60 and put in 2 GB ram in. I could also add another Geforce 7900GTX 512MB because i have a SLI compatible motherboard.

Many thanks,

James

Other than increasing the memory to 2gigs and bumping up to dual core your ready to go when the time comes.... the only thing you need to consider is if you want to wait for DX10 instead of running 2 7900GTX in SLI.

Solid and proven DX10 options may not be available untill next summer so base your decision on that.

One thing you do need to watch out for is the memory upgrade. Check the manual for the motherboard to ensure that you will not loose dual channel and interleave by adding memory to what you have. Some motherboards will turn off dual channel and even reduce the memory speed below DDR400 if more than 2 slots are filled.

If that is true you will have to purchase 2x1GB sticks instead of adding to what you have, which I think is 2x512 as I recall.

If it will allow for addition memory, verify what you will have to install to keep dual channel functional.

Cheers Nick.

I'm thinking of taking out the 2 X 512MB RAM, and replacing them by 2 X 1GB RAM.

Thanks alot for the help and advise.

you may not have to do that howver it has been my experience that 2 sticks are better than 4 for stability even if the motherboard will allow 4 sticks and not downgrade the memory. I did not look at the manual for the board but I know that motherboard has 2 blue slots for primary dual channel. I will look at the maunal and post back unless Congo beats me to it

According to the manual you can fill all 4 slots but there is a catch... you MUST use a matched set of 4 sticks of the same EXACT manufacture, cas rating and type. And there is another catch, it must be rated for using 4 sticks based on the manufacture, so you would need to contact the manufacture of the memory you currently have and verify you can still get the same EXACT memory in another 2x512 and also verify with them it will work in the A8N32 SLI Deluxe as described.

It will run the demo maxed out. Easily. BUT, with mods, flying through the grand canyon, you'll need more to max it out.
None the less, it will look AWSOME! 2gb of memory will help.

Oh, and Cameron, what happened?
