DVD-R Drive= Not working

Postby Flt.Lt.Andrew » Sat Aug 05, 2006 9:16 pm

Hey everyone, I've had my Dell for about a year and the drive is working intermittently....I stick in a disk and the little light comes on, and it gives two or three half hearted revs and thats all that happens. I try to start the drive by going to Run, etc etc , but it always tells me there isnt a disc in the drive. FTW?

Sounds like a frisbee. Time for a new drive.

Again what else is new. Back in their prime, they used Lite-On drives, and I heard rumor that the XPS were useing Plextor. But now they use some crap brand that I don't even recognise.

Its an OEM, what you do you want. If you want to have good hardware, then build yourself.

Well I think you're all right, Thanks Dell! I'll need something good, not nessesarily the best, but something that won't break and will play the top games for years to come.
What do you gurus recommend?

Thanks everyone,

I have 2 drives a Pioneer and a Sony and they're both excellent (my Pioneer is getting a little long in the tooth and tired now after 5 years and sometimes doesn't play DVDs hence why I got the Sony) ;)

Thats the burner I have. I love the thing, and for only $35 you really can't beat it. Havent had a single read error in two years.

Only after 1 year? Is it not possible that the Laser Lens is just dirty?
It looks like chicken, smells like chicken, tastes like chicken, but when Chuck Norris says its Beef...then damnit...its Beef!!!

Unless your house is rediculously dirty, no, it would be highly unlikely that the lense is dirty. And even if it was, it would read, but skip a lot. It would also give a disk read error.

Definately a frisbee.
