Finally getting a camera

Found it on overstock.com for alot less than i thought so theres probly soemthing wrong  ;D put a bid of, um, never mind for all you overstock browsers out there  ;)  buts its under what you would pay at the store. If we do get it its alot better than what i was thinking of. I was hopeing for atleast 10x optical and i got 12  ;D Heres some more info:

Introduced in February 2005 (pre-PMA), the Cyber-shot H1 is Sony's attempt to win a share of one of the fastest growing digital camera market sectors, the 5 megapixel 'super zoom'. Although Sony has produced big zoom cameras before (the F828 and its predecessors sported 5x and 7x optics and there was a 10x zoom floppy disk Mavica a few years ago), the H1 is the electronics giant's first foray into compact, big zoom image-stabilized cameras. As well as a huge 12x optical zoom the H1 is a real treasure chest of photographic control, offering a wealth of automatic, semi automatic and manual exposure modes, a big 2.5" screen and captures VGA/30fps movies in space-efficient MPEG format.

It's a lot like my camera ( Panasonic Lumix FZ5) - same 12x zoom; same 5 million pixels. And you know what? I think I've produced some shots that are waaaay better than some taken by a fancy dslr. Sometimes the results I see from those  camera's dissapoint me. Perhaps because the owner doesn't know anything about making photo's and doesn't wanna learn, or neglects the post-processing of the shots that make them stand out.

Anyway... once you get it, shoot with it, learn, experiment. Get to know the stronger and weaker points of your camera... I've got some tips I want to share if you're interested and I'm still learning every day.

In a nutshell? You'll love your camera!

ok thanks omag, i was readong some comments from when it first came out and the people were basicly makeing fun of it,saying sony is trying to make a rip-off, so i guess i'll prove them wrong. After i get it i'll spend the day playing with apeture, exposure, and all the features. Man i hope i dont get out bidded lol  ;D

well just as i suspected,  first some other guy that sells stuff comes in, and raises the price, so we go up to $245 then some f--- comes in and outbids us and we cant go any higher.

Sorry for the "launguage",  but im rather freakin mad...

That is ebay my friend......... I know because I've lost over 70+ auctions to that.... makes you not sleep, then you loose it, so frustrating! Cheers, Gunny

I just bought my first digital camera, it's got similar specs to your's but it's a Fujifilm S5600. It's got a big range of features and a thick manual.

So far, I'm impressed, but time will tell.

I bought a 1gb picture card for it off Ebay, my first Ebay purchase as well.

I picked an auction about to end, (6 hours to go), and then I bid about ten seconds before it closed  ;)

That seemed to work, and I got my 1gb card for about 1/2 what my normal online supplier was asking.

yea we stopped about 3 hours before it ended, then this other guy game in and raised the price to $260 i laughed later cause i found a factory refirbished for $180 (about) with kodak, same specs, and some more features. LOL im much happier now.

I learned early on you never bid on a auction until about a minute to go, then enter the highest price your willing to pay for the item.
Just sit and watch what is going on until the auction is about over.
When you bid early it shows others that there is interest in the item and this will most definatly bump up the cost, and of course there are some sellers that will "hire"people to pump up the price before the end (which is forbidden but hard to prove especially with Ebay) to force a higher selling price.

If you really, REALLY want the item wait until there is less than a minute to go then place a outrageous bid amount that no one will be able to top in the time left, this is my technique (Im on dial up so I must account for the extra time it takes for my bid to be placed), recently I was going for a item that was up to $45 I wanted it so with 45 seconds remaining I bid $1000, it ended at $53 and I won.

Its those final second where you see the newbies bidding, trying to win by upping the bid by the minimum amount possible, this is also where you can see those using a high speed connection or multiple connections to snipe the auction.

Beware if there is someone as insane as you doing this you could end up paying a lot more, lol all it would take is for the other bidder to place a outrageous price  less than $1000 and your stuck with a empty pocket so use caution  ;)
