LCD-TFT Monitor Selection

Postby hberger » Tue May 02, 2006 6:08 pm

I would appreciate if I could get some help and suggestions on what LCD
Monitor to pick. Currently I use a 19" Nec FE991 CRT Monitor, but its is
now over 3 years old and started to flicker and other weird problems. So rather than fixing it ($130+) I am thinking of going the LCD route.

I have a P4 2.8, 1.5 GB ram, pluse a ATI9800 pro 128MB Video card.

I checked out a few Lcd monitors at a local Monitor depot and here is a list of the ones I could be interested in. I am willing to spend $400-600 bucks. I use it strictly for Fs9, the web,and a few other things.

Viewsonic   VP2030P  8ms 20"

Viewsonic VX 2025WM 20"

Viewsonic 930B  8ms 19"

Samsung 204B 5ms 20"

Acer 2416WD 24"  on special right now, few hundred cheaper than normal.

If anyone has one of the above listed, I would apprec. your opinion
on the performance of these in fs9. Or recommend any other brand.

I have searched the forums but was unable to find a proper answer.

Thanks   Helmut

I haven't used any of them, but I spoke to a techie a while ago and he rates the Acer monitors very highly, failing those have you looked at the Dell range?

Hi,

thanks for the reply, no I have not yet looked at the Dell
Lcd's, will do so, this is all very confusing with Lcd monitors.

well definatly go for something at or over 20" as theres a masive difference over 19".  If you can veiw the monitors before you buy that can helpl you make a desision, take a fast action DVD.  the 24" sounds interesting.

I agree.  Acer is very good.  0 dead pixels with mine, and other people who have got Acer LCDs.  The image quality is excellent too. ;)

Hi,

Thanks for the help, the store where I could get the Acer 24"
have it all packaged up and I don't think they would set it up and let me try it out.

Another question, how will Fs9 perform on that 24 monitor, will the panel look elongated, etc??. Also is my Ati9800pro
adequate for that.

If I get a 20", does it have to be wideview in order to use fs9
they are somewhat cheaper than the 21 and up.

Too many questions but better save than sorry.

If they REALLY want to sell it they will open it for you to view ;)

If they don't ,tell them you'll be spending your money elsewhere.

It depends you don't have to use the screen at max res all the time.  If your in 2d cockpit you can run at max res and then resize your cockpit to half the screen and use the other half for gps and radio stack..  lots of things you can do to have the same perforamnce and still use the full screen area.  Normal FS should drive it just fine.

Thanks for the info, the Acer 24" is no longer avail. Now I am
still checking which 20-21" to get, there are lots of choices.

Certainly wasn't that difficult choosing a CRT years ago.

I ckecked out the Gateway FPD 2185 WH, liked it, but they
have a 1 year warranty, should be 3 years.

I looked into this stuff and there are two, key specs to be concerned with for gaming...

One is contrast ratio (higher is better)..
