please speak english.

from what i read, here are your specs:

2.4ghz processor
800mb of ram, yet the box said 1024mb (aka 1gb)
ati radeon 200 express
200gb hard drive.

well we would like to know the manufacturer (Dell, HP, gateway) and a model number (D4100, 3120, this list goes on...) we can deermine what parts can be changed, or we go with our usual statement:

build your own!

once you submit some more info (above) CTJoyce, congo, jetmech, me, and others can help you.

It sounds like a a good chunk of the RAM is being used by an onboard v-card.. maybe ?

ah ha!!! emachines are known for shorting out memory to save a few bucks. i know a friend who had '128mb' of ram, but XP only showed up 96mb. i've never heard of 96mb ram sticks. so i searched, and many, MANY others have this problem. i suggest a new PC, not  only for the specs, but to save yourself period.

now as far a bundled PC's so, you can go dell, but they are proprietary with some of their hardware. if you go dell, XPS is a waste of money. gateways arent good, espically since they own emachines. HP....eh..., ditto with compaq, they are media PC's, not gaming.

ahh, alienware is your way to go. good gaming compared to price, they beat out dell XPS'.

now it's hard for me to suggest parts to you since i have limited specs.

all i need is a model number. i can do all the searching and we'll help you out.

to brett: it's more of emachines bad memory which ships with every comptuer.

The CPU, HDD, RAM, Optical drive and "maybe" the case/PSU are all useable.

First upgrade I'd make is a solid mother-board and a PCI-E V-card..

If that E-machine does have a PCI-E slot.. you could get away with just a V-card... but building around whatever chipset E-machie chose might be an uphill battle...

There.. I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about ...LOL..

Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to give you sound advice (unless Congo choked on all that Dell, Gateway, Alienware talk

cause or the stuff it comes with, you could build your own for half the price. hell mine could match a XPS (provided i upgrade to the +3700). and you can't expand or relplace important parts. and you cant overclock. i saw a $6000 xps that a mid grade alienware could outpace.

i've owned 4 dells of various types, so i know whatthey are up to.

i has 800 somthing ram but it sed 1024

^That would be 896mb RAM, 128mb dedicated to onboard graphics.
That's my guess.

I'm with you. I won't get into my sig. Everyone here can see what I'm running. Anyway. My Father and I built are rigs at relitvly the same time. Well, I say build, He has the bigger Dell account whereas I had to start at the bottom with a 1500.00 limit. He sprung for the XPS Gen 4 rig. I built the same thing in an 8400! Before I added the extra gig of RAM and the new 20.1 LCD we both ran consistant. His XPS vs my 8400. Come to think of it even after adding the mem and LCD he's still paying more a month than I am because it's an XPS. It's all in the parts my friends. I think the fancy case is what he's actually paying for. An eMachine eh? When your done being frustrated with it I could stick it under the tire Of my Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 if you would like? ;D

If you are looking to upgrade and have Champiagne taste but a beer budget, check out tiger direct or newegg for bundled CPU/MOBO combos then go from there ;)

You people and your OEMs are making me sick. After buying a new PSU to support your parts correctly, new RAM to run the system better, a new GPU, as the onboard one stinks, and a new motherboard to overclock your processer you may as well just build. Honostly have there been any issues that you had to call dell for, as you couldnt find the answer here? Didnt think so.

Back on topic, heres what you need to do.

1: Buy 1GB of good RAM (PC3200 Corsair, OCZ etc
2: Buy a new PSU. A 450W should be the minimum. Look at thermaltake, they have some nice models for small prices.
3: New GPU. I assume you have an AGP slot, so I'm going to say ithor X800GTO or any 6800 series card.
4: New CPU + Mobo. Your processer is probibly a 478 celeron. A cruddy processer in a old chipset. Look at LGA775 motherboards, and a 630 prescott from Intel.

However when all is said and done your just rebuilding your rubbish system. Best to start at basics, and use your old HDD so you dont have to buy that or windows.

Cheers

I'd like to help, but in light of the vague and obviously incorrect specs, it would be pointless. I saw this post as soon as it went up.

The 7900GTX is a great video card. I think an emachine customer may be a little put off by it's price though.

Lol, even I am put off by its price.

But with an emachines you wouldn't be able to put it in anyway, due to the lack of a PCI-E lane.

The 800mhz something, emachines something , doesn't really give us much to go on, I guess the appropriate answer so far is........ get some kind of compatible hardware improvement......  :P

n_richardson05, there are thousands of variations on PC hardware, we can help, but we need a specific model number at the very least.

a mere model number, and all of us will be flipping the internet upside down to find the specs. and when we do, (97% success rate) we can tell you what to improve on.

i wouldnt be suprised if emachinces has propriteary engineering like dell.
